Acquiring this guy for the PP is to me yet another indication that Muller has no idea what to do and continues to blame the players. There is enough talent here for an effective PP. Bad move again IMO.
We get it. You don't like Muller. I guess you'll just ignore the fact that last night, our PP looked the best it did in a month, partly because of MAB.
You'll probably also ignore the fact that Muller's had a solid reputation with special teams before coming to Carolina. What's more likely: A coach with a special teams reputation suddenly forgets how to run the special teams OR players that couldnt score or prevent a PP goal to save their life continue their trend, regardless of what the coach says?
The PP itself, in terms of structure, is pretty solid. It's a simple umbrella formation, leaving a lot of options for one-timers; either from the point, from the boards, or the back door play. The problem the PP has, however, is two-fold. One is a complete lack of movement. They have to move to open up shooting lanes, they have to move to get the goalie moving, and only when the goalie is going west when the puck is heading east should they start firing those one-timers. The other problem derives off the first, in that no one can hit the net from the point. It's always either blocked or well wide. Without that threat for a point shot, there's no umbrella formation. Teams will just do what they've been doing; clogging the middle, giving Corvo/Pitkanen/Brent that pointshot all day.
Now tell me what part of that ISN'T on the players?
