That was Ryan Carter and a 5th round pick which turned into Sean Kuraly.

I'd rather roll 7 D men and scratch useless Westgarth.

My conspiracy theory is that Westgarth is playing only because Cowher is a secret minority owner. It's the only thing that can explain why we keep having him in the lineup.

BINGO!! Or they are courting him to sign on with the next group.

After all, Bergeron is not a good puck moving dman. He's just great shooter and nothing else. He's better version of Joe Corvo with pretty good shot. He can't pass even on average level, he can't skate with the puck... yeah, i understand why we take him but he's not answer by any means. We are just that desperate.

Lol texting back and forth with a buddy of mine who covers the Habs. Said MAB has a bomb, but needs a GPS in his own zone.

His best line was last night, though. I asked him how brutal the Canes PP looked in person, he responded that "I know I can write for two minutes because I won't miss anything." Bazinga.

Re. Bergeron...I really hope he brings a spark to the PP because the Canes sure do get a lot of opportunities, and the longer the doldrums continue, the tighter they'll be gripping their sticks.

So if everyone is healthy. What's our defense?

Joni-McBain
Faulk- ?
MAB-Harrison

Who goes in the ?

I like Bellemore more than Corvo, Sangs, or really anyone else that's been there.

McBain on the outs. Cost saving move for JR, he'll probably try to take advantage of the weak market, and hope a team takes Jussi's contract, and gives up a nice deal for McBain.

I see MAB getting railroaded at the point by Brouwer, who then takes the puck down the ice and scores a SHG.

Rinse and repeat a few more times and MAB spends the rest of the season in the press box, where he has made a home the past 3 years for similar situations.

I was wrong... It was Ward who railroaded MAB and scored a SHG.

That seems to sum him up alright.

Acquiring this guy for the PP is to me yet another indication that Muller has no idea what to do and continues to blame the players. There is enough talent here for an effective PP. Bad move again IMO.

Yeah, well, probably the worst news is that MAB was one of the better defensemen playing defense on the ice last night.

We get it. You don't like Muller. I guess you'll just ignore the fact that last night, our PP looked the best it did in a month, partly because of MAB.

You'll probably also ignore the fact that Muller's had a solid reputation with special teams before coming to Carolina. What's more likely: A coach with a special teams reputation suddenly forgets how to run the special teams OR players that couldnt score or prevent a PP goal to save their life continue their trend, regardless of what the coach says?

The PP itself, in terms of structure, is pretty solid. It's a simple umbrella formation, leaving a lot of options for one-timers; either from the point, from the boards, or the back door play. The problem the PP has, however, is two-fold. One is a complete lack of movement. They have to move to open up shooting lanes, they have to move to get the goalie moving, and only when the goalie is going west when the puck is heading east should they start firing those one-timers. The other problem derives off the first, in that no one can hit the net from the point. It's always either blocked or well wide. Without that threat for a point shot, there's no umbrella formation. Teams will just do what they've been doing; clogging the middle, giving Corvo/Pitkanen/Brent that pointshot all day.

Now tell me what part of that ISN'T on the players?

The lack of movement on the PP last night was sickening. I can't think of too many times I've seen five players standing completely still while one guy just handles the puck in place. And then caps it off with a pass right to the other team

Some of the issues that afflict this team really are of a Hockey 101 nature. God help us if the players are being TOLD to do that stuff and not coming up with it on their own.

My favorite was when EStaal and Tlusty took turns at the near-side half-wall, cycling the puck to each other while the defense stood there and watched them waste PP time.
