Think of him like Ben Smith. Ben Smith did play the wing for the Marlies, and was not great in the NHL, but he was great in the AHL. Jooris can win draws at the AHL level (not so much at the NHL level), so I would guess this is the Aaltonen replacement as Marlies 1C. It's a little bit of a different flavour than what Aaltonen had, but they are going to have those types of guys (like Bracco) on the wing now, and they did not have any who played like Smith to replace him. So here is your center insurance and depth signing. Now, barring trades, the only thing Leafs or Marlies need is a top 9 forward and a top 4 defenseman.

With the exception of JT, the long term improvement of this team is most likely to come through trades and drafting.

From my understanding he can play C and W, plus is a right hand (center) if he plays there for that option.
4C is up for camp battle with the top 3 locked.

This guy is a Miro Aaltonen/Ben Smith replacement. Nothing more. He probably won't even be Marlies captain. He'll compete with Lindholm and Gauthier, but both of them would have to do a lot to give up their spots to Jooris.

Nobody should get their hopes up to see this guy even play one game with the Leafs. He'll have to be pretty impressive in camp to even get to that point. If Ben Smith did not want to go to the DEL so badly, we probably would have kept him over Jooris, and Smith himself was a long shot to ever play for the Leafs again.
