Good signing. He earned a contract with his play.

This gives us 8-9 forwards capable of scoring 15-20 goals or more.

No surprise at all he was signed, it was a given. He would have to have been absolutely terrible not to get a spot.

$700k contract for a player that scored 14 goals and 38 points last year and likely to play in Leafs top 6 this year is good value.

Leafs have been preaching patience and no better example than Brad Boyes.

Drafted by the Leafs 1st round 2000 entry draft and is finally ready to make his Leafs debut +15 years later in 2015. :)

Yup, and it gives him a chance at the cup. If he has a good season, at this price, I'm sure a few contenders will be interested in him at TD.

i could see him on the 2nd line with lupul and bozak. he should realistically be able to flirt with 50 points if he gets top 6 minutes and 2nd pp time. for $700,000 i would think he would be easy to flip at the deadline for a ~3rd.

You have to think he has come to Toronto to eat minutes and then be flipped to a playoff team at the deadline.

LOL that's awesome.
Forget the Wings model.
The Leafs really let their prospects develop.
In a few more years Steen should be ready.

If he's on track for 50 points, he'll get a hell of a lot more than a 3rd.

Glencross had 28P in 53 games for the Flames, and he got a 2nd and a 3rd. His cap hit was more than three times as high as Boyes, and they have comparable defensive play.

Can't believe Boyes is 33 - damn, time flies.

Decent signing and not shocking since Seto and Glencross were invisible in their PTO's.
I know, we all have to make our new babies fast so we could produce more ice hockey players like Brad Boyes. Time goes on.

Boyes could put up decent numbers with the ice time and PP minutes he'll be given here. I could easily envision landing a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him at the deadline.

Jesus, that legit looks better than last year....

Good signing. Seems the team direction is what I said they should do last year. Get old to get young.

It is. They are not planning to tank at all. This is a team ready to fight for the last playoff spot if they have Nylander in. Either way, not bottom 9 team for sure. 10-16 yes.

Don't know why people are saying trade bait.Resign him after he has a good year.We are going to be bad for another few years & he will be a great example on & off the ice for the young guys coming in.

Better to trade and get the picks/prospects. Stock pile the picks and prospects. We got guys that will need the spot next year to get the experience.

You can always resign in the offseason after trading him.

Leafs traded Winnik and then brought him back in July.

Or alternatively, its about the average price for an unsigned player (by the other 29 teams) coming into camp on a PTO. Some people call that market value (or fmv).
