Posted it on HF. All the sharing I do for my videos.

You're too humble.

I like the player but do we need another PMS Dman or a PP specialist?
Also, I dought his defensive game is NHL caliber. Also, with that big ice surface, lots of time and space for him to get that shot off.

Well looking at that video, what impresses me the most is how quickly he seems to be able to let his shot go. From what I saw, he has a quicker release than Subban so I don't see the big ice really being a factor as far as his shot goes.

So you would have let him walk and re-enter the draft?

Wether you need him or not, it's a no brainer to sign him(rather than let him walk on June 1st). He is an asset you can use or trade for another needed asset. Defensemen are the most highly coveted position in trades and have the best relative value(see Schenn, Goligoski trades).

I didn't say that, just saying that currently, we have depth in that role and unless you move one, I see him in Hamilton. Without saying our D core is soft, it's not to physical either.
Same role players we have:
Subban-our top end Dman that can play decent in his zone
Markov-Our General and a decent player defensively...more in terms of postion
Diaz-Good PMD with s good stick in all three zone but struggles vs big forwards
Beaulieu-will see if he's ready come September but is still raw in his own end
Weber-Like Diaz but with less composer and maturity. Same size.

I see Weber probably being traded this off season. Maybe to add a physical bottom 6 or a pick.

I think Nygren is to come to camp in September and if he doesn't crack the Habs(unlikely) he will go back to Sweden for another year.

Weber may have value, in term of a cheap contract....just not sure if anyones bites. I see him getting waved and only then will someone pick him up. Not sure if we could get a draft pick in the top 5 rounds but I guess that would be better then losing him for nothing.

Nice to see. He could be a good late round pick. He's a pretty aggressive player, so he's a very high risk/reward player.

what's Nygren's skating like?

Good. His agility definitely could use some work, but his speed and technique are fairly good. I wouldn't call it one of his strengths, as it certainly could be better, but it's not a weakness either.

Isnt it just me or does he resemble Mike Green ? From what I saw that's what he looks like.

He certainly has a great shot/wrister as shown in this video.
I would love to see more like first pass, physical side and the puck moving ability.

He will need some time to adjust to the faster pace and more aggressive PP defense in AHL/NHL.
No way he has that much space in NHL...

Looking at the stats of the Swedish elite league, he is the best scorer but only fourth d-men on points.

Nygren seems to score a lot of goals on the PP being set-up by Chris Lee.
While Nygren has 13 goals and 32 points, Lee did 12 goals and 41 points topping the league.
Lee seems to be going to KHL next season.

Nygren is still only 22 years old whereas other top offensive d-men in the swedish elite league are 26, 27 or older.
He has a lethal shot and reminds me of Streit.

Definitively an interesting project.
Could be a PP specialist with bottom-6 duties.

We need to see much more of the other parts of his game.
How is his defensive play? NHL good?
Can he dish good hits at the right time?
Every weakness is magnified in NHL.

To conclude, Nygren is the best swedish offensive d-men in the Elitseren and at 22 years old, it looks really good.
But he was playing with the best QB in the league: Chris Lee.
Tu put things in perspective, Runblad produced 20% more than Lee the year after being drafted.
He needs to come to AHL so we can see more.

Beaulieu - Pateryn - Ellis - Nygren looks like a good top-4 in Hamilton.
And a PP with Nygren and Beaulieu would be interesting to see.

Kristo - Pribyl/Goeffrion - Collberg - Beaulieu - Nygren could be more lethal than Stortini and Hagel duo.

Stats are fun to analyze but they don't really say much, I don't care about his offense if he's another Weber..has anyone who watches him actually play regularly think he has a shot in the NHL? How does he play defensively against top line players?

Edit: also, I believe Geoffrion might be retiring

Less gritty Wisnewski?

More gritty/defensively responsible/big Bergeron?

Yes ! The Wiz is a really good comparison. Same shot, less physical but has the frame to become bigger.

Or how about Streit ? That seems like a good comparison... no ?

I find it comforting that he's been chosen as the best swedish defenseman even though he's fourth in points. Leads to believe there is more to his game than his offensive production.

Edit : Nevermind, just saw that the 3 ahead of him aren't Swedes :shakehead

Hamilton's right side on D just became crowded. Nygren-Pateryn-Dietz-Ellis.

Beaulieu-Nygren as a PP duo should be deadly in theory, but Lefebvre remains in charge of this team.........

Pretty much means Thrower goes back to the WHL for his overager season, IMO.

Good news, I'm worried how Lefebvre is going to use him though.

I don't think Lefebvre is as terrible as people think. He had a pretty **** team to coach.

And every player called up from his team seemed to perform well enough to play in the save for maybe Pateryn

Doesnt seem to be posted yet: Nygren also selected on allstar sweden team.

Espoirs ‏@Habsfuture 4 h
Magnus Nygren named on the swedish All-Star

If your swede sucks, use your translator:

Landets hockeyjournalister har utsett Tre Kronors all star-lag för säsongen 2012-13:

Målvakt: Joacim Eriksson, Skellefteå. Backar: Magnus Nygren, Färjestad, Staffan Kronwall, Lokomotiv Jaroslavl. Forwards: Jimmie Ericsson, Skellefteå, Oscar Lindberg, Skellefteå, och Carl Söderberg, Lin

To help: Malvakt = goalie, Backar = Defense , forwards: ....not sure!!!

Unlike Collberg, there's not much more that Nygren can learn in Sweden. Bringing him over is great news, if he's going to evolve into a more well rounded player it should be on small ice anyway.
