Okay.

Even going by "pace", Marner still wins in 3 of 5 seasons.

2016/17
Marner 0.79 P/GP Rantanen 0.51 P/GP

2017/18
Marner 0.84 P/GP Rantanen 1.04 P/GP

2018/19
Marner 1.15 P/GP Rantanen 1.18 P/GP

2019/20
Marner 1.14 P/GP Rantanen 0.98 P/GP

2020/21
Marner 1.25 P/GP Rantanen 1.21 P/GP

Love how you continue to include the rookie year. Let's wait and see how the rest of this year plays out before anointing Marner the winner. That's an awfully small gap, over an awfully small sample size for both players.

But I get it.... When you're argument is that soft, sometimes you've really got to grasp at those straws to push your narrative through.

Nah, that's just your definition of the word.

Marner thus far has been disappointing in the playoffs thus far, but he is young and can change that. Rantanen has 39 points in 33 playoff games, Marner 21 points in 25 playoff games. Whatever regular season edge you think Marner has, it is small. While the playoff gap between them is quite large SO FAR.

Since there is a 41 page discussion on the leaf board about Marner's struggles in the playoffs, obviously a lot of leaf fans agree with me and disagree with you.
Marner's Playoffs Struggles

Marner career playoff points: 21 in 25

Matthews career playoff points: 19 in 25

Marner has actually been better at producing in the playoffs than matthews while making less money and signed for longer. He also has the better season high in points and has made numerous players have career years due to his unreal playmaking and vision.

You are not wrong though, there is a fairly large segment of leaf fans that seem to dislike marner, its a shame.

Marners total numbers are 2 higher from 1 series where he played good. But matthews outplayed marner in 3 of 4 playoff series

If matthews "outplayed" marner 3 of 4 series' then he would not be behind in points.
your lack of logic is blowing me away.

First playoff series. Vs Washington: Matthews 4 goals and an assist in 6 games. Marner 1 goal and 3 assists in 6 games. Matthews lead the team in scoring and outperformed Marner this series.
Second playoff series vs boston: Matthews had a goal and 1 assist in 7 games. marner had 2 goals and 7 assists in 7 games. marner lead the team in scoring and outperformed Matthews in this series. Matthews missed 10 games at the end of the regular season with a bad shoulder injury and wasn't near 100% going into this series, forcing him into a perimeter game instead of his usual bread and butter and everyone knew it.
Third playoff series vs boston: Matthews had 5 goals and 1 assist in 7 games. marner had 2 goals and 2 assists in 7 games. Matthews outperformed Marner this series.
4th playoff series vs Columbus: Matthews had 2 goals and 4 assists in 5 games. Marner had 0 goals and 4 assists in 5 games. Matthews outperformed Marner this series.

Marner had the bulk of his points in 1 series while Matthews was playing injured and barely scoring. kudos to him. but Matthews still played better in every other playoff series.

And in either case, Rantanen has 39 points in 33 playoff games in 3 years, while Matthews + marner have a combined 40 points in 50 games over 4 years. lol to the other guy saying Rantanen isn't on the marner level.

That 3rd series where matthews had 2 more points, the Bruins matched Bergeron against marner while matthews played against weaker competition.

The fact marner only had 2 less points while playing against the best line in hockey makes that a wash.

I'm honestly not sure why you are so blown away or hostile. Might want to get that checked out.

That's not hostile little guy. That's called deadpan responding lol

However much boston Coaching matching Bergeron's line with Marner's using last change in boston home games matters, they were using their top defensive pairing against the Matthews line and Marner still had Toronto home games where his coach dictated whose line he was matched with. it didn't make any difference.

This was a tough one! I'm a huge Mackinnon fan so I voted Avs duo but it's really really close.

Matthews > MacKinnon
Marner >/= Rantanen

The leafs’ top line has been the best line in the league this season.

Goals per game:
1. Matthews: .806 (1st in the NHL)
2. Rantanen: .523 (19th in the NHL)
3. Marner: .483 (28th in the NHL)
4. MacKinnon: .423 (46th in the NHL)

Combined:
1. Matthews/Marner: 1.289
2. MacKinnon/Rantanen: .946

Points per game:
1. Matthews: 1.403 (3rd in the NHL)
2. Marner: 1.362 (5th in the NHL)
3. MacKinnon: 1.346 (7th in the NHL)
4. Rantanen: 1.231 (16th in the NHL)

Combined:
1. Matthews/Marner: 2.765
2. MacKinnon/Rantanen: 2.577

Seeing as the Avs have had the most PP opportunities by a mile in the NHL this season and Toronto draws among the fewest, it makes Matthews/Marner's numbers look even more impressive.

You can take into account other intangibles like D but I don't think it hurts the Toronto duo's standing here.

Mathews has closed the (regular season) gap on Mack. Austin’s goal heater was been incredible, but Nate is still quietly top 4 ppg in the league. Issue is, Mikko‘s now the best RW in the NHL. Will be and has been a fun debate.

Nothing has changed. There is no argument that can be made until the Leafs duo start doing something in the playoffs.

would love to see a 3 0n 3 tourney, Matthews+Marner+Makar+Sherstekin vs McDavid+Drai+Hedman+Sorokin vs Mack+Rant+Josi+Anderson

Playoff production

Matthews 0.76 PPG
Marner 0.84 PPG

MacKinnon 1.35 PPG
Rantanen 1.18 PPG

Pretty significant advantage for the Avs duo once the games matter
Kinda where I draw the line between the duos… until marner and matthews can show up in playoffs, I’ll have Mack and rant ahead
