Foligno is also owed roughly 2M more in actual salary as well.

Does that really matter when both teams are committed to spending to the cap every year? If I had to guess, I'd say the deal was based around a little cap relief for the Bruins and a prospect that the Flames like. Regardless of the names or pieces involved to even it out, that's the only thing that really makes sense.

Foligno I understand but Smith and Zacha seem a sight more valuable than Lucic.

I don't disagree with the premise, but beyond Lucic having great ties to Boston, I don't get the reasoning for trading Lucic to Boston at all. Why does Boston want him?

On top of that, Calgary is better off paying Boston to offer future considerations in return. Like offloading someone to Detroit or Yotes or whoever so we can chase a top 6C.

Agree, I don't see a deal between these two working out.... Boston needs to cut cap, at best with some of these options they would end up at a net neutral and likely be downgrading talent wise

Doesn't Lucic know that you can't go back home? Although I would love to see it happen.
Not sure why Boston would want to do this though.

Calgary has no reason to make that trade. At the very least Lucic scored 10 goals last year, is a leader in our dressing room, was top 20 in hits among forwards, and is still the toughest SOB in the league. Foligno had two goals on the year for crying out loud.

Also Lucic has been very durable and Foligno has not

Hell baby
But Boston has no reason to make a deal like that
I think if they want to get tougher it makes sense. And tbh they probably do need to get tougher. They’ve lost their way in that regard the last few years. Too busy being the nail to be the hammer.

Smith doesn’t have a ton of value these days, he’s an aging, ultra-streaky 3rd line winger that kinda disappears in the playoffs. Lucic is obviously a shell of himself but I would love him back in Boston, if only for nostalgia (and to ragdoll the assholes of the East)

Smith for Lucic @ 50% retained is something I’d do as a Bruins fan. Financials aren’t too different at that point, Calgary gets the more skilled guy while the Bruins get the tougher guy that already means a lot to the city. Would be a pure hockey trade.

I would love to see Lucic back for the Bruins. Guy is still the baddest mfer in the league. On the list of active players I would like to fight he might just be last. Boston has been missing that identity, Foligno just ain't it.

Depends what Milan wants I guess. Can't see the Flames retaining max for Foligno, maybe Smith alone or Foligno + a pick. Looch scored 10 goals last year, and is still a punishing physical presenece. Foligno scored 2. Why downgrade just to do the Bruins a solid.
