Well yeah it's kind of hard to have positive team differentials when your playing 3rd line minutes on a team with an elite offensive line and shutdown unit ahead of you. Regardless of that he is roughly an even CF% REL over his career, and was a 53.5% playing 5 on 5 minutes with offensive black holes in Jankowski and Neal. Bennett had better metrics than his two most common linemates in pretty much every category imaginable.

His ixGF/60 ranked him first on the team at 0.90 just ahead of Backlund and Monahan.
His iHDCF/60 ranked him first on the team as well ahead of Tkachuk.
He had a horrible PDO.

There are many signs pointing to a potential breakout offensively if given a bigger role, not only statistically but with the "eye test" as well. There is a reason he generates so much interest on the trade boards around here, but the fact remains Calgary has little to no incentive to move him - especially after his performance in the playoffs. Bennett is one of the only players on this roster that consistently plays with intensity, grit, and passion. He is also a cost controlled asset.

Sam Bennett is a good hockey player that has yet to and probably will never live up to his draft pedigree - but guess what? That's ok. He is still an effective role player that has shown flashes of much much more if given a greater opportunity.

+1 on this post.
If he can carve out a Tom Wilson Lite career, Flames will be really happy.

I would love to see Hollsy fleece Trelivin, getter done Kenny, FRIG WOOOOOO!
Good luck with that. This is wishful thinking for edmonton. Both players would be fighting to make the lineup. Not to mention were looking to move a defencemen not bring an overpriced 6 or 7 back in for stupid dollars. Brodie was going for kadri and the only thing you have worth anything on trade to that is klefbom and RNH.

This is somehow even worse for the Flames. That’s impressive.

Well with the retention and swap of JP/Bennett, we gain size and hopefully Pool can start a party with Chucky, we need to give up a dman and Stone is no use especially if we're getting Russell, maybe we can move Lucic with another 1.5m retained, but I'm hoping more on Pool party to spark up with a player like Chucky, Bennett can't stick in the top 6,L could create a new look for the fourth line, upgrade Doc's Line, and have Lucic-Janks-Czarnik as a fourth

Brodie traded for a 1st/2nd with a young middle six rhs forward

I suppose the silver lining on a failed and totally unrealistic Lucic trade proposal is the mercurial Oilers signing of Archibald. If he plays on the 4th line with Looch, it could be named the Archie and Jughead line! :)

I appreciate this. All of the people who think they can diagnose a playoff series without watching it should give this a read.

Playoff series are such weird things and turn so fast even that diagnosing what happened is tough. Take 2019 Flames-Avs as an example. Flames were excellent in Game 1 and completely stifled the Avs. They were dominated completely in Game 2 and yet were only a few minutes away from winning that one as well. Game 3 was another shellacking. BUT people forget the Flames looked great again in Game 4 and again if not for a late penalty, and an amazing save by Grubauer in OT, the Flames had that game. Game 5 the Flames had tons of chances as well (both teams did), and it was close until the Avs got a few goals and then the Flames gave up.

What can you say about the series? People say the Avs dominated, which is true of enough of the series, but not completely true. The Avs were easily the better team overall, but had a few things gone the Flames way, the series could have went another way.

But toughness was no factor at all in any of that. Energy is the difference. When the Avs were dominating, it appeared the Flames had none.

Nobody wants that trade. Edmonton isn't trading Nuge in a dump Lucic trade.

RNH would be a solid addition, but I don't see the Flames trading a first and second on top of Bennett & Frolik just to dump Neal.

What?

Have you even thought about this? Value is super fair for Edmonton. I am a Calgary fan! So you guys are ok adding 6.5 million in a cap hit?

The trade does not work for your own team. Calgary fans say hell no!

Or are you a Calgary fan that does not understand a salary cap?

Either way that is not happening.

Wait, was this supposed to be a serious idea because holy crap is it awful for Calgary.

A cap dump, a prospect verging on bust status and a soft second line centre for all of Bennett, Frolik, Jankowski, Kylington, a 1st, a 2nd and Neal. That's putrid.

Hey don't worry it's awful for Edmonton too. Turning a cap dump, a 69 point 2nd line centre, a young player who still has some upside, and a pretty good 3rd pairing D into three 3rd liners, a similarly bad cap dump, and some picks of little value certainly doesn't improve the team.
