Crazy Idea: 3 way trade CGY, EDM, OTT

EDM Receives: Bennett, Neal, Frolik, Jankowski, 2020 2nd (CGY), 2020 4th/5th (OTT)

CGY Receives: RNH, Benning, Puljujarvi

OTT Receives: Lucic, Kylington, 2021 1st (CGY)

*using JFresh's NHL Trade Value simulator () the values worked out pretty well for what teams lost vs gained*

So Calgary gives up Bennett, Neal, Frolik, Jankowski, Kylington a 1st and a 2nd for Hopkins and trash? Surely you jest.

This might be the funniest post I have ever seen here. Ottawa gives up a 4th OR 5th rounder and they get Kylington who is a top 4 in the future and our 1st while sending us nothing.

I'm guessing the OP thinks that Ottawa should get Calgary's 1st because they are taking a bad salary from EDMONTON. LMAO....not only would the latest EA NHL console game turn this down, it would probably shut down the console and block any further access of the game....

Too much on Calgary's end, but lets not pretend that dumping James Neal doesn't have a massive cost attached to it, or that Frolik is anything but an overpaid 3rd liner at this point (perhaps not with the way contracts are headed). Kylington's a nice piece, but Bennett and Jankowski showing no signs of anything more than quality 3rd line play really don't hold significant value.

I agree with your second post though. Ottawa gets a lot just for taking on Lucic, and neither Edmonton or Calgary come out of this very happy.

That's pretty terrible for Calgary. Sure they get a good middle 6 centre, but they have to give up a 1st, 2nd, a future top 4 D in Kylington, Frolik, Bennett and Jankowski? Plus the added deadweight of another 7th dman and Puljujarvi who would essentially be a Curtis Lazar replacement? Not even close to worth it, even with moving Neal

Make it simple, Lucic(2m retained Edmonton) with Edm's 1st and Cgy's 2nd(both 2020) to Ottawa for a 3rd in 20

Neal(1.75M retained from Ottawa) and Cgy's 1st 20 and Kylington and Jankowski for Nuge

Edmonton gets Neal(4M), Calgary's 1st, Kylington and Jankowski, Ottawas 3rd
While giving up Nuge, Lucic(4M), 1st

Ottawa gets Lucic at 4m, Edm's 1st and Cgy's 2nd and 1.75M dead cap space
While giving up a 3rd

Calgary gets Nuge
While giving up Neal, Jankowski, Kylington, 1st and 2nd in 20

That's both for Nuge and getting out of Neal without us retaining

I don't know why all the pitch forks are out on Neal. Give him another year. I think he scores 20 and makes all this trade him for our 1st talk look dumb.

Its not that we want him gone, the main reason he signed with Calgary is hes close friends with Smith, the belief is that he wants to continue to play with his friend now that Smith has gone to Edmonton. As for him scoring 20+ goals, that likely isn't happening while Backlund/Jankowski/Ryan are his centers as they play a very defensive style of game, opposite of Neal's. He didn't mesh well with the first line like Lindholm did, so the solution is either bring in a more offensive oriented center, or move on from him and bite the bullet that he will likely have more success elsewhere but his return will be low do to last season. Personally I would prefer the first option but teams are't just handing out 2C's on the cheap and we lost our chance with Kadri.

We have a 2nd line C in Lindholm though. We need Right Wingers. Heck, if Dube steps up we might not need anything except good goaltending.

Dube is about 2 years out, he could very well be our 2C then. As for Lindholm, yes he is an option for 2C but then we need 1-2 RWs. It does t exactly cha ge anything, we're patching 1 hole by cutting from another.

You have a source for this? I'm sure they are good friends, but nobody signs a 5 year deal expecting to spend it in the same team with a goalie in the twilight years of his career.

Whose belief?

Hey don't worry it's awful for Edmonton too. Turning a cap dump, a 69 point 2nd line centre, a young player who still has some upside, and a pretty good 3rd pairing D into three 3rd liners, a similarly bad cap dump, and some picks of little value certainly doesn't improve the team.
This.

A first and a second hold little value???? Tell that to gm's at the draft. The only one that would make the team is rnh and puljujarvi will probably go back to europe after calgary sends him to the minors. Benning would be fighting to make the team were looking to lose a defencemen. Oh and just as a sweetener well throw in 2 bottom six players both younger than rnh and both just looking at thier primes. Good call im sure treliving cant wait to sign off on that one.

Calgary's not giving that much to get RNH and to get rid of Neal with any salary retention, that's just a bad trade.

If you're going to classify everything other than Hopkins as trash, you should probably point out the Flames comparable trash as well. Taking out the trash and no value stuff, it basically becomes Bennet, Kylington and picks for Hopkins. Nuge is far and away the best piece there.

The “comparative trash” would’ve all been top 6 scorers on the Oilers last year. But yes, they’re comparable to two fringe NHLers
