Jonathan Cheechoo had 50+ goals and 90+ points in that same amount of games spanned.
Weird how a player like Cheechoo could disappear after 81 games despite that being deemed worthy enough to show you're a proven performer.
Couture got overpaid. Just accept it Sharks fans, there's nothing wrong with overpaying top 6 players. But when you overpay bottom 6 forwards, it's a whole different story unless you have Dorion ready to bail you out of your mistakes.
Great two way player, puts up 30G consistently, very good in playoffs. Totally fair deal IMO, especially with a rising cap.
The difference is couture isn't plagued by injuries and his 81 playoff games are over 6 or so years. Much different than the one year of cheechoo you're talking about. Hardly comparable at all.

Toews was one of the 3 key pieces in 3 different cup wins including one where he won the Smythe, and another where he had a massive WCF. He gets 11 million for reasons other than just points.
Couture got overpaid, theres no reason to be offended our salty. It happens to a lot of teams/players.

Toews was the 3rd/4th best player on those cup teams that had a run that Couture outscored in 2016. Don't misinterpret facts for sodium.

It's really concerning that people on this site are acting shocked by these contracts. For the past two years these types of contracts have been offered and every time there is more than a handful of posters that appear to crawl out from their rocks and feign being surprised at the "overpayment."

It's weird that you're up in arms about that considering your basis of this contract being bad is that Couture hasn't hit some arbitrary round number. Me pointing out your boy has only done it once while getting paid 3 mil more a year only points out how silly that is.

Up until this season Toews was top 6 in Selke voting the last 8 years including a win + 2nd AST... he was. key part in 3 different cup champions, plus another long playoff run. Thats where the extra 2.5 million comes from.
I don't care if Toews is overpaid. I saw him hoist the cup 3 times in 6 years.

Leafs are paying Marleau $6.25m at that age of 40. And it's not bad.
By the time Couture is 38, 8m will be a smaller percent of cap space than Marleau at 38 and $6.25m

These type of contracts almost ensure another lockout. 8 year is the real concern for an almost 30 year old. 8 million is fair market value I guess but not the greatest value imo. I would of almost let him walk at that price. 10% of team cap but deadly in the playoffs
