Damn, that's pretty expensive, but at the end of the day we're not winning a cup without Couture, and 10% of the cap won't kill us for a 1st line forward!

Seems a bit hefty for a guy who has topped out as a 65 point player in his career. He's a very good player no doubt though.

You expect more than a 55 point and two 14 goal season over last 2 years from your # 1c
or not. we seem to have done better over those two years than the team with the 100 point 1c.
of course if thornton isn't considered the 1c then couture is and ... well yeah neither thing helps your point.

According to you 16/17 you lost in 1st round . last season 2nd round . The year they went to final Thornton was a ppg , so nothing you just posted makes sense ,and is wrong Oilers took you out of playoffs with a 100 point center and did better in regular season as well

Is he worth $8 million today at age 29 coming off a solid regular season of 61 points and an outstanding playoffs? Yep.

Will he still be worth that money in three year? Quite possibly.

But will he still be worth $8million in his mid to late 30s on the back half of this contract.... doubtful. This won't bite the sharks for a while, but this will be a tough pill to swallow in the future.

Overall, it is a bit of a "win now with this current core" contract.

lmao you clearly haven't watched Weber. he's played injured the games he played this season since game 1 and he's still a very servicable complimentary top pairing Dman.

and it's funny that you compare couture RIGHT now that he's still a good player when im talking about the contract being bad in the future, Weber at 29 year old was considered EASILY a top 3 Dman by almost 95% of HFboards members. he's 33 now.
We've seen plenty of Weber. Sharks owned him 2 years ago in the playoffs.

These "do it all" players with average skating but a lot of intangibles tend to deteriorate faster than other types, so this is a very risky deal. More expensive than Backstrom or Kuznetsov

I like the player but that’s a lot of money for Couture, but I as long as the cap keeps going up it’s no big deal. I remember when 6X6 seemed crazy.
