yep, and Jumbo might retire after the upcoming season aswell.

what's pavelski worth honestly? He's put up better numbers than every year couture since 2012-13, but he'll be just about to turn 35 when he hits UFA (so the 35+ rule won't be in effect here). Say 2-3 years at 6 million?

I’m okay with this. I said when the Kane contract was announced that it would be completely justifiable for Couture to ask for $8x8 years.

Just means that Pavelski is probably gone, which is more than fine with me.

I'd take Couture at 8x8 on the Bruins in a heartbeat. Nice signing for SJ.

This is a fair deal. As a Sabres fan, he seems very comparable to an O’Reilly. The guys who’s a borderline 1C, plays a good 200ft game, but won’t be a ppg guy.

John Carlsson had more points than Couture, plays D, and has the same contract.
Carlson = 303 points in 608 games
Couture = 427 points in 582 games

Also Couture scores at a .95 PPG rate in the playoffs, if you ignore his rookie year where he wasn't playing very many minutes.

77 points in his last 81 playoff games.

Same AAV as Johansen, makes sense.

Although i think Doug Wilson doesn't see himself as the GM of the Sharks 5 years from now they've got like 35 million locked up on 5 players who are all going to be 32-38 years old, and that's not including Tavares or Pavelski :laugh:

I was shocked to see Couture will be 30 next season. I thought he was like 26.

It's fair. Still think he is one of the more underrated players in the league.
SJ's window to win is the next 3 years. Couture is a 2007 pick, so he's 29 this year/possibly 30 depending on his Bday.
Vlasic is a 2004 pick, so he's 32. Burns and Pavs are 2003 picks, so they are 33. Kane is 2009, so he's 27.

Vlasic, Burns, Kane, and Couture will combine for $30 million in cap space. Leaves $50 million for the remainder of the team. If JT goes there, it drops down to under $40 million for the remaining 18 guys who need to be signed.

And people had questions about the Lightning re-signing Miller. We'd just as soon trade Miller himself to make room. To make room on the Sharks they're gonna risk letting Pavelski walk and/or a Thornton retirement next year? Jesus....

Shark fans have been hearing this 3 year window stuff for the past 10 years.

3 years till a rebuild. 3 years later its they got 3 years till a rebuild. And we are still going.

I see a lot of people criticizing this based on offence alone. Couture has so many other intangibles in addition to being a good offensive player. He takes on a lot of key defensive assignments, he's a heart and soul leader, and scores at clutch times in the playoffs. I don't mind this for San Jose at all.
