In Montreal, I know a couple of city arenas that have free open hockey, compliments of the tax payer. Sharpening is typically $5 but where I get them sharpened they sell a card for 10 sharpenings for $35.

"Private" Drop-in: $10-$15
Stick & Puck: $5
Skate Sharpening: $4-$7
Skate Baking: $20

Since the economic down-turn a few years back, there has been a lot of budget slashing at the local level. This has translated to municipal rinks limiting available time, raising prices, and in one case in my area, closing up shop completely. However, there is always ice available somewhere within a reasonable distance.

Holy crap some of these prices are insane!

Missoula, Montana here..

$5 sharpening
$6 for stick n pucks
$7 for drop in (shiney)
$4 for public skate
$280 per person for mens league

Then again, our wages in Montana are considerably lower then places like NY/NJ etc.

In Boston I get 10 sharpenings at the local shop for $40 with one of those punch cards. They usually range between $4-8 around here.

League games, I'm usually paying in the range of $17-20 a game, although it obviously varies from league to league. The league that is $17/game only has 1 ref and no time keeper. The $20/game league has 2 refs and a time keeper (that's at least 90% of the time). Very rarely do we only have 2 refs or 1 ref with a time keeper. I don't think I've ever seen just 1 ref to do it all.

Someone should put all this info into a spreadsheet, or even a map format :P

Here in Des Moines, IA it's $5 for an hour stick & puck, $10 for 2 hours of drop-in or $90 for a 10-play punch card. Sharpenings are $5 at the hockey shop, and I think $8 at the rink.

Columbus OH. Keep in mind there is ONE company that runs the rinks in town (The Chiller), so they have a monopoly on it. One company, 8 sheets of ice. You can skate at Ohio State for some things like Public Skate, but there are no public leagues or Drop In's there:

Drop In (1.5 - 2 hours): $10, goalies are free
Stick & Puck (no games allowed, 1 hour): $15
Skate Sharpening: $5
League Play: Depends on how many players, but it averages out to about $20 a game

Considered moving around Columbus and noticed they have a good hockey scene :)

When I was in NYC it was:

$15 for a sharpening (from West Side Skate)
$600 to rent the ice for an hour and 20 min.
$25-$35 for open hockey (between City Ice and Chelsea)
$15 for stick and puck

Now in Houston TX
$7 for a sharpening
no clue for rental ice
$12 open hockey fee (theres actually little open hockey here, but I got into a weekly scrimmage where my cost is usually $12 per skate).
$15 for stick and puck

Best Sharpening you will ever get - Pro teams drive distances for this guy.
And comparing to what others pay $7 bucks is good. Plus he takes your name and you get a free sharpening every 4-5 times you go.

Shinny is $6 for 2 hrs
Stick n puck is $6 for 1hr
Winter league is $420 for 25+ games

I would highly recommend looking into No Icing Sports in New Hampshire for sharpenings.

http://www.noicingsports.com/

You mail them your steel and they mail it back. Sharpenings are $6 plus shipping. Makes sense to have 2 sets of blades and rotate them.

Even if you don't use them, visit their site, there is a ton of knowledge out there.
