Little Caesars Arena's red seats to be swapped for black

All of the red seats at Detroit's Little Caesars Arena — which show up starkly on TV when they're not filled during games — will be swapped for black seats over several months beginning in December, the venue's operator said Monday evening.
The announcement comes 13 months after the building opened and its two primary tenants, the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons, were the subject of commentary about the unfilled bright red seats during games.

I thought the tickets were technically sold, so who cares?

The seats are neon red, but that is a pretty expensive do-over right away.

I'm sure a lot of them are sold and sitting empty because a corporation or scalper couldn't unload them on a willing taker.

That said, Ticketmaster distinguishes between resales (scalpers) and tickets that are being sold for the first time. There are substantial chunks of the arena that weren't sold this season. It'll be interesting to see whether they still claim sellouts or not.

Are the seats normally empty or has attendance dropped significantly since moving arenas?

Lol, first they drop "Hockeytown" and now this.

Do the owners not care about having the right people run their team?

Every stadium with iffy attendance needs move to the BC Place model of seat colouring... stadium always looks more full than it is... always.

The randomness of it really helps...

That would sit well with STH
It depends how it is done.

Say you have about 5000 unsold tickets each game. Take 3000 and give them to local schools. Take another 1000 and give them to a charity... the remaining, offer to season ticket holders (in pairs) as a thank you.... with each game you rotate schools, charitable organizations and season ticket holders.
