Better than if they didn’t distinguish USA, and claimed to be including Canada. That would just be absurd. USA makes it merely controversial.
At the end of the day it is a marketing gimmick, so people really shouldn't get that worked up over it. It isn't like Wings fans are running around saying "We are number one! See? We are even named HawkeyTown!"

Someone please explain why people should pay money to watch this team? And don't say, "because you have to or you're not a real hockey fan."

Because hockey is nice and bandwagonism/gloryhunting sucks deep.

Why on earth did they build that place with a 19,500 hockey capacity? Shouldn't somewhere between 17,000-18,000 made more sense considering the issues they were having at Joe Louis (even in the playoffs) they were having lots of empties. Red Wings have great fans but with 19,500 to fill every home game even great crowds won't look as great as they should

I'm guessing in part because it's a multi-use arena.

But also that's a little smaller in capacity than Joe Louis Arena was and when the Wings were actually a good team the place regularly sold out. 20+ years of success and high ticket prices have finally caught up with them the last few seasons.

My buddy is going to the Jets game there tomorrow. He says it costs him less to drive there, get good tickets, and spend a night in a nice hotel than to go on StubHub for the Jets game in TO on Saturday.

Every game has been sold out, and the Red Wings are the NHL's biggest draw on the road.

Do you need some reminding of what the United Center used to look like before the Kane/Toews era?

It isn't arrogance if it's true. Again, the Red Wings are arguably the most popular US based team and have the biggest road following of any US based team. Every game has been sold out the past 15 years with a smattering of 90-95% capacity filled games here and there.

It isn't true. Detroit is not A hockey town, let alone THE hockey town. It's a football town, unfortunately.

Not sure I'd be bragging too much about the fact that so many people born in Michigan flee the state first chance they get.
