As much as I would love this to happen I doubt he will hit 40 games this year, in my opinion anyway. However, with the way the team looks right now I could see the leafs be more comfortable trying out a bunch of kids in a small role, going forward.

Is it October 3rd yet?

Let him bake in the minors.

Unless Hainsey and Zaitsev are injured for the season, let him bake.

If he dummies the league in the first half of the season, why not bring him up?

Rielly (22) Zaitsev (22)
Dermott (20) Hainsey (20)
Gardiner (22) Liljegren (14)

What do you mean by "dummy"?

We already know he can put up points.

Let him work on his D game all year - our cup window is long.

If he is a point-per-game+ dman and skating circles around teams, why not bring him up?

For example, he won’t be able to work on his two way game if he always has the puck

Still thinking he's on track to make the team for good next season. Nice bonus if he sees any NHL time prior to that. Won't surprise me if that happens.

0 chance he plays more than 9 games unless he is absolutely head and shoulders above all the others that are fighting for #6. The reason is simple, why reduce a year of ELC while he is just a filler and not clearly helping the team to put them above a few teams.

I'm confident in saying at worst he will be a PP specialist in the NHL.
I'll say I didn't get a chance to get watch him much last year, but the fact he didn't put up better numbers when that's supposed to be his specialty scares me.

I know I've read that he was focusing on his D, but you'd think the Marlies still would have given him decent chances to produce.

His O was harnessed with the emphasis on the D side, much like Rielly in his first year under Babcock.

Keefe really had him work on his defensive game last season and it showed.

I'm thinking we will see him grow into himself as the offensive player that he is this year. He's got real whip on his shot from the point.

Ya, this year I hope he can put everything that he focused on this past year with what he naturally knows well.

Let him "bake" in the AHL as another poster put it this year. Then play it by ear in the 2019/20 season.

If the Leafs play their cards right, I can see Liljegren being a big part of the Maple Leafs defense in the future. Develop him in the AHL for at least another full year. Let him play as a #1/2. Let him thrive in the playoffs. He knows the game is all about speed, and playing the puck quick, making quick decisions. This is key!

We can't afford to mess with this particular asset. He's a right-shot defenseman trying to develop as a solid two-way player the Leafs can rely on in a TOP-2 role, optimistically. Though, I wouldn't be upset if he even turned into a reliable, TOP-3 or 4. Still can't believe he fell to us, that late. I'll take it all day!

In their tenure thus far, the Maple Leafs front-office have shown to not be fond of rushing prospects, and I don't see Liljegren being the first one. When Keefe & others feel he's ready he'll be up here. Watching Dermott last year brought immense joy. It's great to see a Leafs team filled up with players that have graduated from the Marlies.

I am looking forward to seeing him at camp, I hope he does fantastic! But even if he doesn't blow us all away, that is okay. I am not expecting him on the roster at all this year, because he is not there yet, and that is normal. It's gonna take some time, but it'll be worth the wait!

If we see him on the big club this year it'll likely be to replace an injured player, or a couple of games just for a taste of the NHL.

P.S

Heck Yes! We signed Tavares!

Leafs also need to start preparing for Hainseys departure next season.

Having a good transition plan going into next season for the RD (2019-20) is just as important as burning his ELC year imo.

It doesn't matter if the rest of the guys get games, because in reality these guys are bottom pairing guys moving forward: Ozhiganov Holl Carrick.

Really excited to see the maturation in his game this year, used to the ice size now, playing here, all that experience, should look a different player, really dominate the AHL. That's the hope anyways, don't see why not. He's not playing up here though, maybe a call up for injuries and doesn't dress type thing to get a taste, maybe a game? Kid doesn't turn 20 until April lets pump the brakes a little.

Agreed. If you have no idea what you have, then you either have to sign someone, or put another 6/7 D playing in a role too high. Neither option is a good one, IMO,
