It's a little early for that. Tampa got clown-pounded in both games. NHL.com's box score is weirdly stuck part-way through the game right now, so I can't say what the shots were tonight, but they were 35-17 last night. It's hard to accurately judge a goalie when it's like that, especially when Darling had a couple of yips that could have gone very badly against an NHL-caliber opponent.

I have heard numerous times that the hardest games for goalies are when they are not getting lit up and in a groove.

That one flukey puck rolling up Darlings stick wasn't representative of his night.

A great aside by Tripp was him talking about Brindamour on taking chances at the offensive blue line instead of just dumping and chasing, and how Brindy likes that Williams tries to make something happen even if there are turnovers. Is there anything more anti-Peters than that sentiment? With the skill and speed these kids are bringing up the ice, I'm really glad Peters isn't here to stifle them.

I think I've seen enough of Roy. Kid is a slug. Maybe 4th line guy is in his future someday, but the game is fast, and his lumbering play is tough to watch when everyone else is flying around.

Foegele/Kuokannen/Gauthier all stay on the island for another week.

I thought Wallmark, Zykov, and PDG looked good last night.

Pu, Bishop, Brown, Saarela can go. And while they looked fine, McKegg and Geekie looked like AHL skill level to me.

A lot of guys making a case for themselves. For a team with a failed rebuild, a lot of promising depth on deck.

Of the Canes' 59 shots attempted, 20 were by Hamilton (11) or Faulk (9).

What I really liked, is that instead of feeding the puck back to the point from the corners for a harmless shot on net or into the defenders skates, the forwards were driving the net, and collapsing the D, and then finding the guys sliding in from the point for uncontested slappers with 3 guys in front of the net.

Maybe it's all in my head, but it seems like the goal is to create some grade A chances instead of trying to get 35 low% shots on goal.

Nah you are right. Traffic in front of point shots has increased significantly. They are attacking the net rather than setting up in their spots designated by Peters to maintain possession. And they are making up the difference with hustle, which currently is working well.

A lot of people won't like this, but de Haan looked to me to be a more polished Haydn Fleury. That's not a bad thing though.
I feel similar.

Give Haydn Fleury 5 more years of development so that he's de Haan's age and you'll probably have very similar d-men. Obviously we all probably expected more than that out of a top 10 draft pick but it's better than not having a NHL player to show for it at all.

I haven’t caught either game. Is there a discernible difference between how we’re playing now compared to the Bill Peters era?

Yes, the PP concept is markedly different, and at ES they appear to be much more aggressive/less structured.

That being said, we really are going to need to see regular season play before any of these takes are reliable. Last night it was a blender of guys who have rarely or never played together as a team, tonight it was a veteran group playing against AHL'ers. A better gauge of the coaching and system will be how they look as a full roster, against a full roster.
