They didn't lie when they said they would offer Karlsson an extension. In their eyes it was win-win.

If he accepts the below market offer, then all of a sudden his value skyrockets and they can trade him for way more.

They didn't outright lie at those town halls, but they were as deceiving as could be.

Gaslighting set on max!

Video confirms plan to rebuild was made in February ....... and not to trade EK65 (in February) as was suggested.

Decision to trade EK65 was was made some time after ........ perhaps after extension was rejected.

You're wrong ...... again!

This is nuts. I'm not sure how you can say that, after the way yesterday went and all the interviews with everyone involved it's plain to see this was the plan all along.

The contract offer this summer was in bad faith.

Then why did they offer him an extension?

If he accepted it, what would they have done?
If he accepted a half-assed offer than yay for them because they get an elite player at a bargain.

But they probably realized he wasn’t going to accept the offer they had. It was just so it looked like they did their due dilligence because they think the fans are idiots.

No bonus money and no NTC.

It was not a serious offer and had he accepted they would have traded him.

Holy ****.

Were they trying to pull another sign-n-trade a la Hossa?!?

I hadn't even considered that, good thing for Erik he likely saw right through the web of lies.

It's pretty clear that there was no room on the Senators for Karlsson's salary this year.

The whole idea that Ottawa offered a fair deal is absurd.

Any other speculation is silly. ;)

"We're gonna be better than people think." .... We are going to have to get a 3rd goalie and an extra sports psychiatrist so our goalies can survive the year. I'm sure we can just hire Boucher to do the psych to save a few dollars.

If you're listening to TSN 1200, they JUST rebroadcasted an interview made on "The Drive" yesterday, with PD, where he clearly clarified they decided to rebuild in February and NOT that he was going to trade EK65.

Which would have kicked in with his extension, in July 2019. A full year to move him.

NO, it would have had be retroactive to the day he signed an extension ........... just like what happened with Carey Price.

Yeah, I heard that and it's a blatant lie.

You can't rebuild by keeping all your players.

Put 2 and 2 together man.

You can get into all the semantics you want, but they never had any intention to keep Karlsson.

Your continued protection of ownership and the GM in the face of incompetence is just an indictment of how dumb you are as a person.
