Lounging around and thinking of what (TV series) to watch next. Nothing in my sidereel's "Want To Try" pile looks enticing at the moment. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I believe you enjoyed the Alienist. Have you seen Ripper Street?

Although I get the joke, it's actually the opposite. Most of Hollywood's leading men are actually really short, so if anything finding tall actors is nothing short of a tall order. :sarcasm:

15 Actors You Didn’t Know Were Short | ScreenRant

Sylvester Stallone Age & Height: 5 Fast Facts | Heavy.com

In Ralph Keyes’s 1980 book titled, The Height of Your Life, the author concocted a theory about numerous actors — especially the males — are shorter than their fans believe.
“Here’s the deal as I finally figured it out. Entertainment in general is a haven for smaller guys. I think you have to be able to present yourself and be expressive to be an actor, but if you grow up average size or taller, then you don’t grow up with such a need to be forceful or expressive. I think that’s why so many of our actors are smaller guys. It’s no fun being a smaller guy and being given short shrift, so you want people to know that you may be small, but you’re not weak.”

Having had two chihuahuas and an Alaskan Malamute, I can attest to the fact that small dogs are much louder (expressive) than big dogs in order to make up and compensate for their lack of size. It's actually quite funny. The small female especially was a master manipulator. She could charm the pants off anyone.

Have a hard time believing Arny is shorter than I am.

The rest were pretty much what I expected, except maybe for Hardy and Diesel.

Thought McAvoy was 1-2 inch taller

Source is unreliable though

MI fallout was entertaining, 30 min less would of made it better. Bathroom fight scene was on par with Arnold's bathroom fight scene in True Lies, 10/10

Would like to mention Cruise in Magnolia as being up there with his best performance in a dramatic role, albeit a small role.

Oh yeah, forgot about that one. Wasn't he nominated for supp actor at the academy?

Probably his best act ever.

I can remember some of the weirdest things sometimes. I completely forgot about Magnolia, but I just checked and indeed Cruise was nominated for best supporting actor at the 2000 academy awards for his role in Magnolia.

I would just go in blind and enjoy the movie. Would be interesting to read your review afterwards. I am actually surprised to see that it got a good rating on RT. I guess that means other people liked it too.

I can make some other recommendations if you're looking for suggestions.

I would recommend avoiding the trailer if at all possible. Trailers give away too much of the movie nowadays.

Would you mind sharing what your shortlist looks like? I've got a shortlist of my own except that it's not very short. :naughty:

In no particular order, crossing multiple genres:

Upgrade
Annihilation
Crazy Rich Asians
You were never really here
Revenge

I hated the final season of Sails

The final season definitely took the wind out from the sails of an otherwise great show. I was actually fine with the last season until the finale. Really hated how it ended. I didn't catch on at first but they actually left it ambiguous as to whether Captain Flint survived or not.

Thank you Sir! I will give that a try next.

Got suckered into "Dirty Money" documentary in the mean time. It is what it is - contrarian and some of its conclusions are to be taken with a grain of salt, no matter how well its messages resonate with me.

well, the ending itself wasn't surprising if you had read Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, cuz Black Sails is a sorta prequel to the book. Just hated the plot devices they used to get there.

I know someone who made a lot of money out of Valiente's rise. She didn't really know how the company was making its increasing profits, as someone tipped her on buying the stocks before they soared. She was kinda shocked when I told her how they made their money.

Good series. Really liked it.

Are these in order of preference? What did you like about them? Thanks in advance.

No order, and those were a list of movies I have yet to see but want to.

Upgrade for the reasons already mentioned. I was intrigued by the trailer also. To be honest, I am not expecting anything high brow or ground breaking, but I don’t need that from everything I see.

Annihilation was well received if I recall but my friends have all said it was really good, including one self proclaimed critic buddy of mine.

Crazy Rich Asians, while despite the stereotypical title, I was told from another friend that they finally portray Asians in a positive light and while there are many Asian cultural references and inside jokes, the movie was inclusive enough that it’s funny for anyone.

You were never really here falls under the crime drama genre I enjoy. I admit to never heard anything or seen the trailer, but a coworker literally just told me about this yesterday and he loved the movie.

Revenge, which I didn’t even know was the name of the movie until yesterday (I saw trailers and swore I remembered it by a different title), looks like a plain old brutal revenge movie. I’m not expecting the Count of Monte Cristo here.

I grew up a massive fan of Goldorak and Robotech. Overall, I don't mind Pacific Rim, but I guess I kinda just expected more. I felt Uprising finished weirdly and needed like another 20 minutes. It just felt anti-climatic. I'd comment on the actors, but truth be told, I only want to see giant robots smashing monsters.

Don't get me started on Transformers. I only liked the first movie... hated the rest. Hoping Bumblebee is good though.

It was all downhill after Megan Fox. :sarcasm:

I think it has a lot to do with THAT day on Oprah.

That's a very nice list! Crazy Rich Asians is on my short list too!

Annihilation, it's like The Arrival on steroids. I didn't enjoy Annihilation as much as The Arrival but only because I don't enjoy horror as much and the movie disturbed me lol. I think you're going to love it though.

Theres no way Arnie is 5'10. Bogus claims made because of election videos.

Not an official source, but my cousin is a Toronto constable and is 6’3, officially (we checked, lol). He was in California years ago for some police function and actually met Arnold and shook his hand. He said they were pretty eye level, though if forced to give an answer, he was slightly taller than Arnold.

My cousin towers over me and I am 5’9.5, so I doubt Arnold is 5’10 indeed.

I dont doubt he mightve shortened a bit or he has boosted his numbers a bit but 5 10 is ridiculous.

Actually most of the list is ridiculous.

My memory is hazy, but wasn’t this also around the time when celebrities, especially Cruise and Travolta, were really embracing the whole Scientology thing? That also received a lot of backlash.

I’ve always been a Cruise fan, with Risky Business being a big part of my formative years. I’ve seen movies of his where I didn’t like, but none I actually hated.

I have faith in Cruise, though I am not sure I have faith in the next Top Gun movie. I get he’s going to be an instructor this time, but I really wonder how they are going to modernize it for today. Top Gun was one of the greatest movies of the 80s but it is incredibly dated and cheesy now. That said, I still get chills at the start when Danger Zone starts playing.

What's with the golden ginormous medal? When you see any award that is oversized, you just know the bogus factor goes way up. It's not unlike those big ass wrestling "championship" belts.

I remember Arnold in his competitive body building days when he was routinely referred to as the "6'4 Austrian goliath".

Saw the above spoof and then it got me thinking ... what's behind that "Idiocracy Medal"?

Looked into it further and found this:

Idiocracy is a 2006 American science fiction comedy film directed by Mike Judge and starring Luke Wilson, Maya Rudolph, and Dax Shepard. The film tells the story of two people who take part in a top-secret military human hibernation experiment, only to awaken 500 years later in a dystopian society where anti-intellectualism and commercialism have run rampant, and which is devoid of intellectual curiosity, social responsibility, and coherent notions of justice and human rights.

The film was not screened for critics, and distributor 20th Century Fox was accused of abandoning the film. Despite its lack of a major theatrical release, which resulted in a mere $495,303 box office, the film received generally positive reviews from critics and has become a cult film.

Idiocracy is a cult film? Has anyone seen it?
