He was 12 on the Oilers (one up from Mess' 11). Wore 9 on the Rangers and is most associated with that number. There was some guy named Anderson wearing 9 during Graves' Oilers tenure.

A "non-roster" number, in that it's above 30, without any particular history behind it (unlike, say, #55, #77, etc).

Also, AFAIR, both Stoll and Horcoff had #36 as their first number, later graduating to highly useful NHL centermen, and a more meaningful #.

Marc Pouliot wore it as a rookie too.
