From all the hand-wringing and angst I'm reading I see our GM still hasn't bought any benefit of the doubt/trust by many here. I know it's a message board and discussion and debate are what it's here for yeesh. Tough crowd.

Gotta overpay guys who just won the cup i suppose. Can anyone do a fancy schmancy Cap Geek write up with the new Bickell and Leddy contracts? Not sure exactly what our remaining cap space is. Can we realistically re-sign Emery and Rozsie + give Kruger a raise?

1. He isn't Subbans cap hit is 2.8

2. Subban winning the Norris is the joke, his defense is pathetic and non existent

3. Who cares. He isn't getting a ridiculous over payment, it's 200K more then I thought he would get. Glad he is signed up.

1. Close enough, he is a worse Dman than Subban, MDZ, and others who have signed recently for around the same money or less.

2. Agreed, but so is Leddys.

3. I care, more room we save the more we can fill out our roster with better players. It's 750k more than he should of got. I'm glad he is signed too, though.

Yes, yes and yes.... but he had better work on his defensive game and strength or he may end up as trade bait before he's 25.

Absolutely agree. However defense can be taught, and improved upon over time. How many players can skate end to end like Leddy? You can't teach that.

So much for the vaunted home town discounts this off-season. I can't imagine what Marcus Kruger received.

Less likely that Michal Rozsival re-signs with the Chicago Blackhawks unless the Chicago Blackhawks trade Sheldon Brookbank.

All this is doing is reaffirming that free agency isn't going to bring in big names and the Sort-Of-Youth-Movement is truly afoot, which is probably a good thing. Guys are ready (or as ready as they're going to get). Leddy's minutes and role were going to expand anyway, and $2.7 wasn't given to him based on what he's done so much as what they expect him to do.

Oduya, Bickell, and Leddy have all been grossly overpaid the last two offseasons. I fear what Kruger's number may be, and more so what may be sacrificed for Toews and Kane contracts.

Oduya was a legitimate 2nd pair veteran dman that can skate. He probably gets a better contract outside of Chicago. Oduya's contract was solid value when it was signed.

Even if they give Kruger 2 they will still have over 3 million in cap space.

That's if Raanta is the backup. From the reports, Emery is being signed for 1.5 million which will be a 575k caphit more than Raanta because of bonus money to Raanta.

They still have plenty of space to sign Kruger, Rozsival.

That's quite a bit for Leddy, but I'm happy he'll be back. Does that mean Roszival is for sure gone? Haven't been keeping up with how much space the Hawks have to maneuver.

At the time Subban signed his contract he wasn't the Norris Trophy winner. Just saying.

That is a good point, but Subban is/was a top 2 D on MTL while Leddy is/was a bottom pairing guy on Chicago.

The season leading up to his new contract, Subban was a 0.44 PPG player with a +9 in 24+ minutes a game against the opponents best and only got a raise of 129% in the 1st year and a 87.5% raise in the 2nd year. Leddy was a 0.38 PPG player with a +15 in about 17 minutes a game against the opponents bottom six with a 200% raise.

Leddy doesn't deserve a 200% raise and Bickell doesn't deserve 400% raise next season ($600k to $3M) with an additional raise from 2013-14 to 2014-15 in a deal with a max salary of $4.5M for the final two seasons of his new contract.

My issues is two fold...1) I don't think these guys can play up to their new contracts; 2) We had a shortened season because of owners complaining about salaries, yet they continue to approve of insane deals relative to a player's production.

Hawks have about 6.8 million in cap space left, correct me if I'm wrong.

Kruger, Emery would take about 4 million of that.

The reports on Emery are 1.5 for 3 years. And there is no way Kruger is getting 2.5 per on a 2 year deal.

If Rozsival is getting what he got last year (2 mil) then Stan can fit him in.
