Fred was awful and one of the bad decisions by Engvall not recognizing he needed to be a high man on that second goal. He's one of out better defensive forwards.
And isn't that a sad statement
Engvall I love the kid but killing a penalty and could have kept it in there end but tries a pass right to a devils player.
We need to make better decisions with the lead
I know Anderson should have stopped them all I get it.

Yes, he overthought that play.

We know he was trying to keep control of the puck, but he could have just held onto in the corner.

A good learning situation.

Not them all, just cover his obvious holes on the first and third goals. Maybe read the fourth goal properly and not have pucks go through him, but 2 goals against seems about right for the quality of chances they got tonight.

Fred's slumping, it happens. It's fine to say he isn't playing well and is a problem (luckily we overcame that tonight)

My biggest Worry is even in our win streak we were scoring 4+ most games. While fun...not a recipe for playoff success. Goalie needs to wake up, D needs to pull their heads out of their wazoos

I guess you chalk it up to score effects that we won 7-4. But Andersen needs to actually string together some quiet nights in goal for him to be able to go Grant Fuhr once in a while. Otherwise he's just a goalie who always seems to find 5-10 sloppy minutes a game.

Good win even with missing personnel.

Had the night shift at work so tried to watch the game and it was "blacked out".

Who ever started these "black outs" needs to be shot.

Not thrilled with how the defense played.
Barrie getting caught deep with the game in hand.
Dermott and Holl not being aware someone is behind them.

What Andersen was doing on the first goal I have no idea. All he had to do was stand there and he's swimming.
The Suban shot really wasn't a screen, just cleanly beat him.

Spezza did not make good decisions tonight.

Take the points.

Nice Sandin.

Barrie blows. Rest of defense played up to their potential, they are playing big minutes and will make mistakes.

Sandin is a Keeper
Looks better than rielly has all season.

Cant wait to see Sandin with higher ranked teams.

Kerfoot and Kap doing good things.
Engvall is always a stud.

Marner and Matthews YES Hatty

Willie and JT YES JT with the HIT!!

Freddy played decent until the last few mins just like the rest if the team.

Our weakness is Mental Lapses in D.
Constantly mistake after mistake, I mean, surely we can hire a coach or psychology buff to get that outta our game by playoffs right?

I mean how do we shutdown the islanders and score 3.

And give up Goals to NJ

Go leafs GOOOO

Barrie manages to look like the worst dman on the team in his own zone, no matter who we call up.

Even Marincin is better in his own end. Sandin, first game, better than Barrie.
His ability to defend is the only reason Marincin ever gets a sniff of the NHL

I agree
I wish Barrie would learn a few lessons .

The other players are young Barrie isn't.

Matthews first ever 60 goal season.

That's a tall order.

I guess you let him go and see where he lands. 50 would be huge. 60 would be a franchise first.

All of this and he is still in his early twenties. We don't get these many good players at this age. A reminder why I said the only two I wouldn't trade were Matthews or Andersen. I stick to that premise.

Spezza was playing great with limited playing time, he still made critical contributions. At the beginning of the season under Babcock, he looked like one of the player would got waived and he'd earned the spot and trust by Keefe after.

I genuinely will not be surprised if Matthews becomes the first player since Ovi to have a 60 goal 100 point season. He's almost at 40 and he hasn't even played 50 games lmaoooo.

How many seasons has he been in the league and he still can't defend a 2-on-1.
I was hoping Dubas would get some value for him while it's still there but Reilly's injury probably shot that idea.

He might do it. Matthews is that f***ing good.

On the main board the Oilers and Canucks fans (Leafs haters) are having a mental breakdown after the Matthews hat-trick tonight.
