Happy about the victory, but gotta admit, a bit disappointed in the Matthews news of 5 years 11 or 6 years 12. It’s probably fair from a pure numbers perspective with projected cap etc. But it does say the young leaders of this group as Dubas/Babcock have stated ( Nylander, Matthews, Marner) don’t care about taking less to help the leafs win. Too bad though, cause it does feel like other top teams have guys willing to do that - Nashville, Winnipeg, Tampa and Boston
I'm not sure you can even call Nylander a leader. He's just another guy in my book. Not core. Not as good as Kapanen. Dubas got played.

If they put this effort out every game they would be a lot closer to Tampa.

PS- Not liking the negotiation reports on Matthews contract.

Muzzin is a horse, stabilizes the entire blueline. Feel much safer defending a lead with him on the ice.
yep, even against Crosby he was pretty much always in the offensive zone. you can tell the other team is wary about going on his side of the ice too

for some damn reason hainsey and zaitsev led the team in even strength ice time tonight,.

were they also the worst possession dmen tonight? yes.

babcock just can't help himself.

You know the reason why.

He's been doing it all year and the Leafs are maybe the best team in hockey this year at closing out leads in the third with those guys at the back.

Not saying its right or that there isnt luck involved but its working statistically.

Muzzin is certainly going to be taking over that role at some point with one of the two down the stretch.

they are our 2 main PK and defensive d'men, why wouldnt they be out in the last minute? your takes are getting bad Zeke ;)

Neither one of them can handle the puck

Battling and defending is fine but once you get the puck from the opposition you need to get it out of your own zone somehow

They don't, that's why they get hemmed in and we bleed shots

He's scoring right now and looks good with the puck, but he's floating.

Very happy with the comeback victory.

Something will have to give with the defense eventually. Rielly is better on the left side as are Muzzin, Gardiner and Dermott.

Beat another good team today and lost to a trash team yesterday.

Wish we were a bit more consistent. Solid win still. On to the next one.

So. 4 points this season against the Jets, Sharks, Capitals and Penguins. All 4 of those teams are in the top 10 in the NHL. Outplayed Tampa in both games. 1-3 vs. Boston isn't nice, but the two home games were well played. I think the can't win against good teams narrative has died down a bit which is good. Time to wake up against the doodoo teams, starting Monday.

One of the best games they've played in a while. Well ... they were good against Washington too... but I'm hoping this could finally be a bit of a turning point for them. It'd be nice to get some breathing room back.

Muzzin looked good out there tonight. I think that pair will work really well.

A good solid win... with ducks, sens, habs, and rangers coming up. Could all be wins with an effort like tonight.
