Mike Babcock said this will be #Leafs game group tomorrow in St. John’s vs Ottawa. They apparently won the team fitness testing.

Going with 7 D and 11 F according to that sheet. Only 3 listed RW (Marner, Kap and Bracco). Looks like a big opportunity for Bracco to show what he can do.

Zaitsev:
“Everyone said that the defense of Toronto was ****,” he said to “Everybody wanted Mazzin. But he began to smear the next day. You just need to understand that this is Toronto. You will be defrauded anyway, because you are a defender.” Don’t worry Zaits, before your Contract is up Melnyk will find a way to defraud you in ways you had no idea could exist.

He's going to try and bet Zaitsev on a roulette spin at the Hull casino in three years.

Hopefully we dress a strong lineup for the good folks in Newfoundland. Send the B squad to Ottawa on Wednesday

Don't they typically split up the squads in early preseason games?

Half your real lineup in game A and half in the next game

Then in the middle games the star players play very little and they fill with plugs.

Then in the final game or two you get the real lineup

I understand Pierre Engvall is the fittest leaf.

HE could be a sleeper
I like him and I think his physical tools are great, but I'm not sure he's one of Toronto's 12 best forwards. I do think there are teams out there he could crack, but not the Leafs at this point

Shilton gives the lines from that group, so it seems the lines tomorrow will be:

Kapanen - Tavares - Marner
Moore - Spezza - Engvall
Korshkov - Gauthier - Timashov
Marchment - Brooks - Bracco
Ex. Elyniuk, Baptiste

Muzzin - Barrie
Marincin - Schmaltz
Gravel - Holl
Ex. Duszak, Lindgren

Andersen
Kaskisuo

I'd prefer to see Duszak or Lindgren get a shot over Gravel, but I suppose Gravel is further up in the mix for potentially grabbing a bottom 6/7 spot on the team (if a only longshot). Not too concerned about Elyniuk & Baptiste being out though. The 4th line returns from the Marlies, should be interesting. It seems telling to me that Bracco is with his Marlies buddies, not getting a shot higher in the lineup with guys like Moore & Spezza (instead that's the bigger bodied, more defensively inclined Engvall). Also interesting to see Gauthier in the mix with mostly Marlies guys (I seriously doubt Korshkov 0r Timashov makes the roster)...perhaps he'll be back down with the Marlies to start the year, or traded to a team needing centre depth.

Makes me curious what the other team's lines might be?

Johnsson - Matthews - Nylander
Mikheyev - Kerfoot - Petan
Aberg - Shore - Agostino
Conrad - Kossilla - Read
Ex. Gaudet, Clune

Rielly - Ceci
Kivihalme - Liljegren
Sandin - Harpur
Ex. Rubins, Hollowell

Hutchinson
Halverson

I don't know, that's my guess.

Pretty spot on to me.

The bottom 2 forward lines from each group are very likely the Marlies forward core for the season.

Wow I didn't know Duszak was so small. Will be interesting to see what he can bring.

Would have liked for the good folks of St. John's get rewarded with a good roster for the game.

They treated the Leafs like royalty and as their own. Would be nice to see them get some love back....

Kapanen is a lock for 60 points if he doesn't blow this chance. Babcock is clearly giving him a window to win that LW spot.

Interesting to see Engvall getting first kick at the can for 4RW. Hope someone grabs that spot and runs with it
