good deal for both sides.

he’s far from set for life. He will be lucky to take home half of that. And spent over 50-60yrs. He would have to be rather conservative and have a very good roi

If he nets $4M, he can invest the in a 5% GIC, he'll make about $200K a year, for life. Pretty sweet.

Nice deal. If he keeps playing like the way he's been playing this season, its a steal. If he regresses, the cap hit is still reasonable for a bottom pair dman.

Good deal. Rewards and shows faith in the guy, while leaving the big carrot of a UFA deal at 31 as motivator.

If he keeps up his play from this year (2nd pairing defender) then this contract will be really good.

His lack of track record is a little worrying but overall I like kt

Yes, set for life.

A good, honest, financial advisor and he's fine.

I'd speculate his degree in finance probably puts him in pretty good shape to understand money.

And getting $150k a year on top of whatever he makes when he retires is going to be an easy ride.

Only problem would be if he lives like he's a millionaire after he retires. For someone who took the long road I'm betting he's smarter than that.

Agreed

But the main board will.

This is the way lol
The main board is mostly Leaf haters who would say McDavid is a 4th line C if he was a Leaf. Lol

This Holl contract is a slam dunk.

Our top shutdown RHD signed for 2 million through 3 years!?

That's fantastic. I don't understand why people are calling him a bottom-pairing D? He's played on the top shutdown unit with Muzzin, while Rielly-Barrie have been on the 2nd pairing eating all the other minutes (that's why they have more TOI usually). His underlying numbers have been fantastic for his usage too, leading the D in possession since Keefe tookover.

Next year, assuming we sign Muzzin for 6M x 3 yrs and Dermott for 3M x 2 years:

Muzzin (6M) - Holl (2M)
Rielly (5M) - Dermott* (3M)
Sandin (1M) - Lilijegren (1M)

Any expansion draft implications?
Wonder if JH might be exposed and of interest to Seattle?

This article indicates the savings after all expenses is about 24% of their original contract.

How much does an NHL player take home on a $1 million salary? Not as much you think - TheHockeyNews

The article lacks consistency though, talking about Canadian taxes and Chicago and NY rents.
And 24% is after all expenses on a $1mm contract, and some of those amounts quoted are higher than necessary.
You don't double your expense because you double your contract, fixed costs are fixed costs, not based on how much you make.
