That's a nice deal for both sides

Nothing but happy for Holl, he's made a career for himself from a position a lot of players would have given up from

Happy for the team to, if this is what Holl is and continues to be it's great value when your filling out your roster

Seems like a solid deal, pretty low risk now that he's proven he's at minimum a 3rd pairing dman and more than likely a guy who can capably play in the top 4. What a redemption story for Holl!

I feel its a little bit high, he's only played 51 games in the NHL so far. Hes largely an unproven commodity and could end up being a difficult contract to move if he doesn't pan out. This also makes me worry a little about re-signing Dermott, who is younger, better and likely commands at least the same if not more. Hopefully it doesn't handcuff the Leafs too much in regards to bringing up Marlies to help round out the bottom pair

3 years is excellent for both parties.

He looks like a top 4 defender, but even on the 3rd. pair his cap hit is okay.

He's now set for life.

good deal for both sides.

he’s far from set for life. He will be lucky to take home half of that. And spent over 50-60yrs. He would have to be rather conservative and have a very good roi

holl was a must keep and thats a good price...we need his size and length badly with rielly, dermott, sandin, and liljegren

thats a nice and cheap blueline so far but talented...we gonna try to add another bigger longer guy that can skate and defend

Half that is plenty.

Great news!

Incredible deal.

Dubas rewards Holls season with a 3 year pact despite only playing 51 games. The Leafs know what they have in Holl. And Holl rewards the Leafs for their faith in him by signing at a good AAV before the summer so they can he more prepared for their next moves. Great all around.

I think Dermott should become better, but he's RFA and hasn't really taken that step we want to see.
IMO, Leafs aren't bringing back the same group of defenders next year.

Just quickly throwing this here ...

Barrie and Ceci will be gone, that's $7.25mm out.

Muzzin hasn't earned a raise if he is brought back, but give him an extra $1mm.
Liljegren will be in the line-up, $863k in.
Sandin a good possibility, $894k in.
Holls increase, $1.375mm in.
Dermott? I wouldn't pay him as much as Carlo, but give him a $2mm raise.

Around $6.1mm in, and $7.25mm out.

Now if they move on from Muzzin and go big game hunting a forward is going to have to be moved. Muzzin and Johnsson would give them $7.mm.

Yeah. A deal that could be a steal if he exceeds expectations, and a deal that isn't crippling if he turns into a pumpkin. Definitely worth it from both sides.

The only risk here might be in the term since he doesn't have all that much NHL experience even up to this point. Don't think that will present a problem though. Good to have some contract certainty along with Rielly on that blueline going forward.
