The French language might be in an issue in his decision being drafted in the import draft by a QMJHL team.

He already will need to learn/improve his English and adding French also to the equation making that 2 languages to learn at once perhaps something that didn't appeal to him.

He doesn't need to learn french, QMJHL teams work in english. It's easier since players come from all over the world and it helps getting them ready for the next level. Import players also get english classes if they want since they don't go to school like their teammates.

Wonder if they could trade his rights to someone else who would pay the bonus.

Then they should have done their homework and shouldn't have drafted him... its not fair to the player.

What makes him so special compared to all euros Rouyn-Noranda have had?

Before he was selected, he said it was ok. Now all of a sudden he needs more money?

No.

As far as we know, he wants to go. Agent just asked more money.

You're forgetting he is an 18 year old kid, and not a professional. If he doesn't want to play in a specific market he doesn't have to. You can't force a kid to move half way across the world to somewhere he doesn't necessarily want to go. So what if other imports have had no problem playing there. It's not a desirable place for Dzierkals and he can do what he wants. He was probably hoping to get drafted to a bigger market where he most certainly would have played had his demands been met but they weren't.

If it's about money he'll go if it's worth his while and won't if it's not.

The thing is... he wants to go. I'm 98% certain it's more about the agent than it's about him.

Leafs probably want him there too.

Rouyn is a nice market despite being small.

Some of those bus trips from Rouyn to the Maritimes teams must be marathons in deep winter!

Maybe the other Euro leagues will appeal to him better. Maybe Marc Crawford would tak crake another youngster with talent onboard.

Actually teams tend to get those trips out of the way before the winter really sets in to avoid that.

The way people go on youd think they did do it once a month.

You're saying he's not a pro but yet he has to be paid like one?

You're talking like they just want to force him to go, that's not what's happening. It was already reported he really wants to go but the agent is asking for more money. Rouyn is confident it's going to be solved within the next few days.

Even the Leafs want him there.

All I'm seeing right now is a greedy agent wanting more money from a 18 yo. I think the kid just wants to play hockey.

If it's just all about the agent wanting more money against the wishes of the player, the player would fire the agent. It can't be 100% the agents choice. In the end, if Dzierkals wants to play there, he will. It's not the choice of the agent, and if money doesn't matter to Dzierkals then he'll play in Rouyn regardless of the bonus size.

Your argument is pretty sound except that he's an 18 year old who may not necessarily know what it is best for him. At 18 with no experience with this situation you've got to believe that the agent's direction must be fairly influential.

I think he should go to Rouyn regardless of the compensation but who knows whether that's correct. Maybe he can learn more if he manages to land on a professional team. One caveat to staying in Europe is that he may play against older players and not put up gaudy 1st/2nd line numbers like he would playing against junior level talent.

Unless he's young and being misrepresented and mishandled by his agent. Has happened before. The Leafs will straighten this out - they've seen bad agents before and they have the lawyers to bring the heat if this is the case.

If Dzierkals were drafted in the 6th/7th round, would this be happening? Or is this him/the agent realizing that they could potentially capitalize on his draft position?

If Leafs really want him there they could easily sign him to an ELC (which gives him his signing bonus) then toll the contract the two years he is down there or even if he excels move him up to the AHL in 2016-17. If this is just a money issue it can easily be solved.
