The idea that Toronto would sink another 9M into a player, particularly a heavily one-way offensive player in Hamilton is reason enough to question.

The whole point is Toronto has a need to get a lot of players under contract and is under some pretty heavy budgetary restrictions and you don’t fix that by putting 9M into another singular player.

To add Hamilton would require reworking how Toronto’s cap is structured. I don’t care what kind of fancy accounting you do, you can’t keep all of the big players AND extend Rielly AND give Hamilton money enough that matches a 9M offer.

Is this whole "creative" thing just getting a team to sign him, slipping them a 1st and b level prospect for them to take 2 million off the top for the duration of the contract?

6 is a lot more manageable than 8.

But still, wrong direction for the leafs to go, he maybe a RHD but he is not what we need.

Winder if they try this with Landeskog

Toronto is going to get everyone, by the looks of things.

Landeskog - Matthews - Marner
some scrub - Tavares - Nylander
scrub - Kerfoot - scrub
scrub - Spezza - scrub

Muzzin - Hamilton
Rielly - Brodie
Holl - Dermott

Campbell
scrub
And next season Rielly will have to go, so add another scrub in his spot on D...

Toronto is gunna do Toronto things. Add Hamilton and Landeskog and Tarasenko (impossible to do but apparently they are “in” on everyone . Choke in the first round again and wonder why when they can only play a perimeter game .

Dougie being from a cold climent probably wants to stay there. I’m assuming that’s why he wants to leave Carolina it’s too hott he probably wants to go somewhere like Edmonton or Winnipeg ideally. He has pale skin so hes prone to sun burns. That’s like taking a polar bear and putting it in the desert. The polar bear would die quickly.
a cold what

It would actually be super smart for them to trade Marner for a futures heavy package and used the saved money to throw a big offer at Hamilton. I'm just skeptical that the Leafs could do that with Marner.

You are 100% not getting Hamilton for only $6.5 million a year.

Try $9 million a year.
Seriously doubt this is anything more than Toronto media’s wishful thinking.. Dubas has no chance of landing Hamilton. PJ boys contract was a team killer. It’s to bad, dubas sabotaged himself right off the bat, has spent the rest of his reign trying to work around it…unsuccessfully. Big error in judgment by shanahan, dubas wasn’t ready to inherit the leaf pressure cooker. They’d probably be better off burning the place down now, and starting over again. They have no hope to be a cup champion

Waddell just said that no team has called him about a sign-and-trade and that it likely won't happen.

I think Toronto would have to offer at least $7.5 million x 8 years with every single penny paid as early as possible.
Sign and trade at 8 x 8 but Dumbass can give up TO's 2nd for the retention fee (idiot). He knows what it's worth apprently, so should be good for it.

Dubas wanted a 2nd for doing a sign and trade with Hyman to save the Oilers 500k (no actual retention). If he wants a team to RETAIN 2 mill a year for the duration that's going to be numerous firsts by his logic.

Acquiring Hamilton could be a prelude to losing or trading one of or both of Reilly And Marner

Is not frontloading bad with the escrow, or are not counted towards the escrow?

Again. Freidman said it in passing that Toronto looked into it.

he then went on and talked about jersey. He has predicted Hamilton to NJ.

I don’t know why this is still being discussed like Toronto is a favourite.

other than you know proving the point of why “clickbait” Toronto mentions are valid.

Adding Hamilton? Losing reilly.............Fab four lives.....
Let's be serious, the leafs can't add an impact player, unless one of the Fab four gets moved....
The media love adding a TO slant, and throw in the odd Habs chatter and boom, thousands come running...

im not sure you read what I wrote. It’s not serious. Friedman said jersey.

he made a passing mention about Toronto and Montreal talking to him in the past to see if they could do something creative. He talks about NJ

Hamilton barely if at all comes up on tbr leaf board. Dubas said he is happy with the D. Kept holl because the price for a top 4 RD was crazy.

He wants to try to sign a physical vet like Bogo, a goalie for Campbell to play with and wingers.

the only people keeping this going are the ones obsessed with Toronto.

Which is why they very clickbait people get upset about happens.

Dubas needs to be fired for even thinking of adding another 7m+ player.
To be fair.... a legit 7m dman that can solidify our back end, is exactly what we need. By saying that, I don't mean it'll work 'capwise' - considering how our forward group/management has decimated any idea of signing friendly contracts ( the bar has been set internally)

Is Hamilton the big money dman we lack though? Iunno...

Can't see this happening with our limited cap room unless major pieces are moved. Dregs saying 8 or 9M but it's more like 9M and up IMO:

Pietro and OEL are not worth 8 to 9 mil so stop using them as comps. Hamilton is a great player and deservers every bit of 8+. Toronto is just a dumpster fire and their asset management is atrocious.
