Leafs could be looking to add KHL forward Sergei Andronov this off-season.

Andronov is a former St. Louis Blue pick, and currently has 11 points in 38 games, playing for CSKA Moscow

Oh no! Not another highly skilled, fast skating, spatially aware, play making passing and scoring European!?
We need penalty box sitters! We need players who can put the other team at a strategic advantage!
Enough with this fascination with the hockey equivalent of Picasso, we want a good Canadian kid named Roscoe!
Damn Dubas! Damn analytics! Damn fascination with skill! Enough Skill! More pebean!
Good thug lifers, Canadian kids, head turns to cabbage

The Leafs aren't hard enough. They don't need more skill, they need cheap forwards who can skate, hit and defend. And I guess that's what this player is supposed to be theory.

if they dont get tougher before the playoffs its another early exit, bank on it

The Leafs already have a big lumbering centerman who can't score but at least he eats tin cans.

Yep.
I know he's not a destroyer of worlds, but I'm looking forward to Grundstrom to get his shot. With him, Hyman, Brown, Kapanen and Johnsson, at least the Leafs will have some people to forecheck...

Paging @Caser:

What can you tell us about Andronov? His stats are very underwhelming and he's going to be 30 next season.

Andronov is a defensive/PK specialist, so his numbers has to be viewed from this perspective. But yeah, it's hard to imagine him being much more than 4th line power center.

So this whole situation tells me that Dubas is not satisfied with how the defensive end/PK is working and, what might be more important, he doesn't see that field being fixed by prospects.

Our defensive zone work needs improvement, but more-so from a defenseman rather than another forward. I think Freddy the Goat fits the role well enough. Don't need to spend that much on a 4th line center.

it would be nice if there was a free wallet RHD at the prospect level of a Gilroy/Schultz in the next year or two, you'd have to figure that we would look like a prime landing spot for a guy looking to put up good stats to get paid a la Panarin to Chicago

Well since there is no specific Dubas thread i will post it here.

He and the rest of those involved done screwed up big time.

Letting JVR + Bozak walk for nothing+ spending a 2nd (turtle neck) all for another 1rst round exit

not inking MM/AM/WM early will turn this team from a contender to pretender.

Those 3 will run 30 million total? +JT =41 million , almost half of a 23 man roster on 4 guys.

meanwhile the Jets will roll,,,,, Liane/scheif/ehlers/wheeler for 30.2m? are you taking the leafs,,,,,,,, 4,,,,, - 10.8 million in cap space??,,my answer, not in a million years

tbay will run Kuch/stammer/hedman/point for 33.8m are you taking the leafs 4,,, - 7.2m in cap space? my answer, not a chance in hell

this horse shhh t mantra " you have time use it" from Lou Lam has cost us big time

this might be the first team in league history that will have to dilute it's roster due to contract demands before it even wins a PO round (let alone winning the cup as some tv/radio pundits have put it)

Bro, Willy is already on at 6.96.

Matthews and Marner aren't getting 23 between them. Matthews gets 11 or 12 yes, Marner gets 9.5 at the absolute most.

The Jets will also be losing a very big piece in Jacob Trouba, probably for nothing (good luck justifying such a deadline move when you're a contender, Gardiner ain't Trouba).

Tampa needs to sign not only Point this year, but Vasilevskiy and Sergachev next year. Notice Mcdonagh and Miller's deals weren't included...

There's a new team joining the league in a few years, the cap will be 90 or more by then. At worst we have to take an L on a deal for Connor Brown or retain a little on Zaitsev, we'll be fine.
