You're kidding yourself if you think the Devils don't say yes. Even if their window is couple years away Matthews would still be in this prime by time they're ready. The only reason Toronto would be remotely interested if they think Matthews bolts in 4 years time.

TBH I was actually responding to the fact Devs would need to add much more hence saying "much needed futures" and not a lottery protected 1st.

Lol hughes and hall didn't even combine for the same total of points or goals that Matthews had. The cap could be used to sign Pietrangelo if he wanted to come here. And if he doesn't? And if hall doesn't? Were left with 150pds center and a lottery protected first. No thanks.

Comparison like that is not really fair.
Devils were hot garbage and Hughes was playing with Simmonds as his winger .
Im a huge Devils fan and even I think Hughes is not going to be as good as Matthews is now , but using this as a “comparison” is crap.
OP offer is terrible . No way in hell its close but saying Hughes is not even remotely in the ballpark is way too premature to say.

Jersey gets the best player in the deal but Toronto also gets a very good player in Hughes and they can sign Pietrangelo and possibly Hall on a shorten contract, go for the cup and still have the young core intact in the long run.

So who says no? Maybe the Devils add a little.

I think it's more than obvious this is not a serious proposal, at least we all know that there is not a single NHL hockey knowledgable person on this planet who would give this joke a scintilla of credibility.
