Making easy plays look really difficult. Like that PP in the first where we failed three times to clear without being pressured. Continued into the second.

Every time we string a couple passes together, we get a chance.

Watching the game, this team is missing a few things, among them killer instincts, depth scoring or a top 6 power forward.

secondary scoring....3rd and 4th lines are useless

2nd line barely functional

consistent defensive plays.....

Because he’s pretty much a more skilled Sam Gagner?

One dimensional. Love his offensive upside but the guy is good at only one end of the ice.

That's not why he's on the fourth line as per Babcock. He's not scoring on the top line so sometimes you put a guy on a lower line to get easy matchups to break the scoring slump. Has nothing to do with his defensive play (which isn't nearly as bad as you are making it out to be. JVR, Bozak, etc are guys that you say that about, not Nylander).

Dave Poulin just said one of the dumbest things I've heard, when asked who would win an art Ross first Matthews or Gaudreau . He replied "Matthews because he can create his own chances" (paraphrasing)

Like I have no problem him picking Matthews, but insinuating Johnny doesn't create his own chances, is laughably ignorant.

To clarify what Poulin said/meant.. He was talking about goal scoring, which is dumb because it was a points argument not a goal scoring one, but yeah. Matthews 'creates' his most of his own points by scoring. Gaudreau 'creates' most of his own points by passing.

But yes Poulin is an idiot regardless of the misunderstanding.

Ah yes, I only heard it once and went into rage mode, that makes sense.

Nylander is on the 4th line because they don't want to pay him 8 million/year because he's teaming up with Matthews

Also he does help their depth be effective and it's not like their top 6 needs more firepower

How the hell do the Leafs have 31 points and more importantly how are we losing 2-0 to them? Ugly game so far.

Also, how big of a d-bag do you have to be to wear a Leafs jersey to a Flames game?

^The Leafs have 31 points because they have all the requirements for a good hockey team

1) Elite talent
2) Good coach
3) No glaring holes in the roster (though Polak is damn close to being one)

There's not a team that won't succeed if they can meet those

The Flames can meet 1 and maybe 2 of them on a good day

Flames need depth scoring, particularly from the third and fourth lines. They're getting nothing from them and that's the difference in a game like this.

And actual embarrassing part is that they have three point per game plus players in the AHL in Mangiapane, Hathaway and Hrivik.

Leafs are mimicking the Penguins model, i.e. overload the offence while carrying an 'average' defence. Treliving went with the Nashville model of overloading the defence while relying on depth to shoulder the offence load. Except, unlike Nashville, the Flames' depth hasn't shown up.
