In my opinion, it's a toss up between AJ and Kaps for the 3rd best prospect in our pool.

Kind of crazy when you look back and see that Johnson was some no-name 7th rounder and Kapanen was argued by some scouting agencies to be the best European pick of his draft. Maybe the Leafs should stop looking to externally for solutions and instead fix their problems internally?

Johnson seems like a Cammalleri clone. Great speed and shot, although more of a perimeter player.

Not a bad comparison, but from what I saw at the WJC last year he wasn't afraid to stay in front of the net.

Maybe you are referring to two years ago. Andreas was not at the WJC last year. Have to agree with you some reports indicate he is a gritty player but he is listed at 5'10".

is this guy going to play with the marlies this year?

Unlikely. He'll probably finish out the season in Sweden with Frolunda. His team is first in the league so there will likely be a playoff round or two.

Look for him to start with the Marlies next season.

He might join the Marlies once his SHL season is over, unless he makes Sweden's WC team. Although the question would be who would he replace in the Marlies lineup, given that the AHL playoffs may have started by that time.

Andreas's season last year is very similar in production to Marcus Kruger, Jakob Silfverberg, and Patric Hornqvist.

This season, it is comparable with Carl Soderberg, Kristian Huselius, and Viktor Arvidsson (Nashville, played 9GP in the NHL this season, scored 3G so far).

Really decent comps, and a great, great 7th round pick.

Johnson and Wennberg were great together 2 years ago and I agree that he seems to have little problem crashing the net despite his size. Wennberg hasn't yet found his footing in the NHL. I wonder what it would take to pry him loose from the Jackets

Playing in front of the net internationally and in the SHL is different than playing in front of the net in the AHL/NHL. Time will tell if he's willing. I think the transition to the North American game will make or break Andreas. He doesn't have the tools that a guy like Nylander has, so he'll have to work harder for his points.

When I watch Johnson play I see a really good offensive player. I think there's a fairly big risk that he falls into the category of "Not quite good enough to play in the top six, and useless in a bottom six role". I hope I'm wrong, anyway he's going to need at least a year in the AHL.

It's a good thing then that Babcock creates a top 9. Top 6 is kind of old hat.

11th in SHL scoring right now 25 pts in 30 games. I honestly keep forgetting about this kid, he's one of our better prospects. Just needs to get over here already

Swedish League isn't as good or better than AHL? Hmmm. Dunno about that. One thing I do know is that the Leafs should get Marner over to Europe for next year. If he cannot go to the AHL. Let him play in KHL. Or SHL, learn a language, play better calibre hockey, don't get crushed in the NHL.

It's more difficult than the CHL. Johnson has progressed very well, and has loads of talent. He'd have been a top 60 pick if he didn't unknowingly suffer from asthma during his draft year. He'll be a top 6 player for the Marlies next year with all of the graduations, I'd expect him to put up at least 40-50 points.

I wouldn't call him a perimeter forward either. He can work around the net and should work under Babcock's system quite well.

As for his offensive numbers, I'm not so sure if it'll translate into the NHL. The bigger ice surface of the SHL can make a huge different on the scoring front. I hope we can get a gem here.

If a guy like Parenteau can find a role in Babcock's system, Johnson should be able to as well. Even if he ends up a 3rd line PP specialist that's still a win for a 7th rounder.

Dying to see this guy. Brown Timashov Kapanen and Johnson are the afterthought picks. These are the guys that if they pan out will truly shape the organization.

Sure you can sit there and say Nylander and Marner are the big deals but by the looks Marner will be delayed(not a bad thing) and these guys may get that shot sooner than later. I am sure we will have a good pick this year as well but these secondaries are where we can make big gains and they look damn good.

The way I see it is that none of these guys are sure things, but all have fairly high ceilings. All it takes is for one of these guys to turn into a top line forward, and that can have a big impact on the franchise for the next 10+ years.

As long as one of them turns out, ill be happy.

If I had to pick one, its Timashov but I think every one of them can find a place in Babcocks system. Johnson being the wildcard but that's because of my ignorance of the player. I just don't get to see him.
