Key matchup:Nazem Kadri vs. Shayne Gostisbehere.
Kadri and the rest of the Leaf forwards will have to take space away from the Flyers’ rookie defenceman, who has a 14-games point streak going. That’s an NHL rookie record, and is also the longest point streak by an NHL defenceman since Brian Leetch had a similar 14-game stretch with the 1996 New York Rangers. Gostisbehere also has the longest point streak by a Flyer since Eric Lindros had 18 games in the 1998-99 season.
Line tinkering: Philly changed up its top two lines earlier this week, and it resulted in a 6-3 win over New Jersey. New top line features Brayden Schenn, Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds, while the new second line has Nick Cousins, R.J. Umberger and Jakub Voracek.
Bright futures: Cousins and Gostisbehere have given Flyers fans a glimpse into the future. Cousins, in his second season, is up from the minors after an injury to Sean Couturier. Cousins’ first three NHL goals have come in his last five games.
Road tripping: The Flyers had a breakout game against New Jersey but scoring remains a challenge. The team has just seven goals in its five previous losses. The Flyers are on a three-game road swing, playing in Montreal Friday, Toronto on Saturday and Carolina Tuesday. They are four games above .500 but still have an opportunity to make the post season.
Up next: Tuesday, vs. Nashville, ACC, 7:30 p.m., TS
