Watched his first 2 games with Northeastern this weekend. He just turned 18 in July but was playing on their top pairing and on his off-side with NJ draft pick Jeremy Davies. He picked up 3 pts and a +5 in the two games. Not the biggest but very good skating, mobility and speed. Have to say I was very impressed, granted he wasn't facing the toughest competition against an Atlantic conference team but I'll be keeping a close eye on him this year as I didn't know anything about him at the draft but so far so good.

Didn't get to see all the games but so far I have liked what i've seen from him at the Summer Showcase. He is undersized but such great mobility/skating. He should have a bigger role with Northeastern as he didn't get much PP time at all last year but with Davies gone hopefully he gets regular PP time as he needs to improve his offensive game. He's so good in his own end, very poised with the puck and never seems to panic.

I don't know what his chances are for making Team USA, but it would be great to see if he does.

I live in his hometown and I'm a NE fan, so I've watched him a decent amount. I don't think he'll make Team USA, but it was great just to be in the running for a spot. He had a big role with NE last year for a freshman and definitely focused on his D. There's definitely skating skills and instinct there to be a danger carrying the puck into threatening zone entries. His passing could use work, as could his shot, but he's already progressed a long way from prep school in 1 year.

not sure, why do you think he won't make the team ? he was one of the best defensive player. He tool big strides this summer and I'm waiting for a really impressive D+2 season.

since NU games are streamed for free as well as a few other Hockey East schools, so I have seen a lot of him. I saw a few games of his with Kimball Union through youtube after the draft in '18 so I was very surprised to see him do so well as a kid that just turned 18 3 months before the season started and to be on the top pairing. I like his passing more then his shot, have said to Hab fans he reminds me a good bit of Victor Mete, both undersized D's that rely on their great mobility/skating but lack mass, strength and a shot.

I'm talking about not making Team USA WJC

He made the cut which is awesome, but there's a ton of competition and I think 2 more guys will get cut.

Locks-
Emberson
Samuelsson
Miller
York
Wilde
Johnson

That leaves 4 guys fighting for 2 spots-
Harris
Jones
Krygier
Stastney

I think based on the summer showcase Krygier makes it and I think it comes down to Harris or Jones for the other spot (unless they take 9... not sure how big the rosters are).

Out of curiosity, did you watch the recent games ? Harris seems like a lock

I did.

If I thought he was a lock I'd put him there. Let's not go overboard with the kid. Again, I've been following him a long time since I live Haverhill. Not a lot of pro athletes from here (former MLB Carlos Pena and for another celeb- Rob Zombie).

He's progressed a lot since what I first saw of him a couple years ago at Kimball (where I know some people who teach and attend there as families). But there are still some holes in his game. Last year was the 1st year he played in a high level of hockey and he did great, mostly based on his great physical skills. But right now he still makes some questionable decisions with the puck. When retrieving pucks he sometimes turns back into pressure and ends up making passes that turn into icings or loss of possession when a simpler play would work. He also sometimes gets away with it because his skating is so good.

He's going to need at least his Soph & JR seasons at N.E. and probably a year of AHL before he's close to being NHL ready. Be happy that you got a great athlete with physical gifts who took a huge step forward last year. But he's not a lock over the 6 locks I said. Since you watched too, you probably saw Krygier who played very well for Team USA. I can see them going that way instead.

I like Harris' upside compared to several of the guys on Team USA, but upside and what it might become at 24 isn't the same as readiness at age 19.

I doubt he makes it over Jones, and I don’t think we’ll take 8 defensemen. There’s no need to. He’s probably 8th for 7 spots.

a lot of recent talk saying Harris will become a complete steal and could surpass Romanov and mete on LD.

Big Div +2 season this year. I see him near 1 ppg this year in the NCAA

Harris is so cool and smooth. Don't think he will ever be a superstar but his game seems so well-suited to where the game is going, calm and collected, moves well, sees the ice well.

The assist was probably more impressive than the goal. He's absolutely been NE's best D this season.

agreed, he's been great all season for Northeastern and they have moved him all over the place. I don't know if you saw Friday nights game but he made a hell of a defensive play on a 3 on 1 against and did it without taking a penalty. I was really impressed with him last year but so far this year he's just been on another level.

Book it,

I'm high on Harris, more than Mete, Norlinder and Romanov.
He will be a great player for Montreal and #1-#2 LD, he's relentless and his development curve is amazing.

picked up an assist last night, currently no U-20 defensemen in the NCAA has more assists or points then Harris. Will be very interesting to see if he opts to turn pro this summer or return for his Junior year at Northeastern.

What's your frank opinion on a Romanov vs Harris in term of long term value ?
Would you still rank him before Romanov ? I'm really high on Harris and the fact that he keeps derogating from his "normal development curve" is just the perfect situation for our LHD situation.

he's not big, but man he doesn't have much flaw in his general play ( maybe his shot ?)

I know you watch him a lot so your view on him is appreciated.

I ranked Romanov higher at the start of the year, and I do another ranking at the end of the year say around April or so. So we'll see where I end up putting these guys.

I am very impressed with Harris, so much poise and smarts, he just rarely makes a mistake and never panics with the puck. His shot needs work, he needs to add strength and mass but with his skating, mobility, smarts, poise, he's going to be in the NHL for sure, just a question of how good will he be.

I think he compares well to Mete, but maybe smarter so we'll see if he can reach that level or not.

Should stay in the NCAA and avoid going into that mess in Laval.
