This is false, but Arizona will have another team at some point. With rules that helped Vegas and Seattle (relatively) be successful quickly.

exactly

i can't see how this isn't headed towards moving the coyotes to a smaller, engaged market with a plug-and-play rink and an owner that can't bear massive expansion fees in the same way, and then circling back to arizona (ie. atlanta) the moment a viable option pops up, and charging them through the roof for the new franchise

Haven’t the fans been through enough. If the nhl owners want this team here why don’t pay the bill for a new arena.
That's not a bad suggestion. Give all the owners an ultimatum: Either pay for a new arena or force a relocation as soon as the season is over. No more middle ground here.

Good thing they’re not moving to Scottsdale.
Where are they moving then?

Infrastructure costs are a big portion of any project like this and typically are handled primarily by local government (at least in Canada). So the Mayor not being on board with covering any is a big hurdle.

This project isn't even in Scottsdale, and the infrastructure isn't coming from Scottsdale.

This is like if the mayor of Richmond Hill Ontario put out a press release about a project across the highway in Markham.

And then everyone rushes to post about how doomed the project is.

The whole thing might be doomed but it has nothing to do with what the mayor of a neighboring city thinks.

Genuine question: If there would be zero impact to Scottsdale at all, why is their mayor coming out with this preemptively?

Hey he looks like a fighter, isn't that something?

Also there's a huge mixed use development just across the highway in Scottsdale, they might be pushing the mayor to block competition.

These huge projects all depend on being able to market themselves as the entertainment destination in the area.

The development looks like it would be fed through Scottdale road which is in Scottsdale though. Who knows if the intersection of 101 and Scottsdale road needs to be upgraded for the venue? Ultimately Socttsdale would be responsible for that asset.

And its also just an odd design if utilities will be fed from the west, there is nothing for several KM in that direction. Thats a big additional cost unfortunately.

Does each city in this region have its own independent water source and infrastructure to supply water?

I'm asking seriously. I'm not being rhetorical. Clearly that's not the reason but what's his concern?
Well, the mayor's statement mentions a few things. Notably, the development, while not in Scottsdale, is bordering it, and mentions specifically congested highway access, which could affect Scottsdale. The statement also mentions that the retail elements of the development would be too close to those within Scottsdale, so there are concerns about the development affecting businesses in Scottsdale. He also mentions that the proposal did include using Scottsdale's water, but it sounds like this was changed when he brought it up earlier.

There is also concern about the developer on the project being inexperienced on projects like this.

The mayor also mentions that there is no mention in the proposal about market demands, implying that there is no evidence to support the notion that consumers would support the development or the businesses within.

Sounds like it is concerns about the complex/facility/development/whatever having negative impacts on his city as it is right next door, but I don't know the area and am just going off of the article.

Oh, right. Seattle got all them breaks early on and the Coyotes are a crappy franchise because rules and stuff.

Except Seattle is on its way to miss the playoffs for a second time in their three years of existence while the Coyotes made the playoffs during their first four years.

Which of those two franchises was successful quickly again?
