Some really catchy songs and then some filler stuff. Decent album.

If I had to pick two it would be their first two, which you already rated. As albums, IMO everything up to Avalon, except maybe Manifesto (haven't heard Viva! or anything more recent than Avalon). You probably already know this but Brian Eno does keyboards on those first two albums. Stranded, Country Life, and Siren are IMO good. I think they were one of the original glam rock bands, along with David Bowie.

Echo this. Flesh and blood is an excellent pre-Avalon album (1980) that I would add to the must have list of Roxy Music.

My favs are..

For Your Pleasure 4.5/5
Avalon 4/5
Flesh and Blood 4/5
Stranded 3.5/5
Roxy Music 3.5/5
Siren 3.5/5
Country Life 3.5/5

Live version of Like a Hurricane is great. Phil_Manzanera once said he wanted his guitar to sound like Mike Ratledge's organ on the early Soft Machine albums. The man is awesome.

Bloated, messy and oddly paced album with a ridiculous title. I know a lot of people hate Matt Healy and he's an easy target, but I want to emphasize how much I want to falcon punch the guy off his stage one day. While I am piling on, the album can feel derivative at far too many intervals.

Lemon Demon - Spirit Phone

Saw this on a review and checked it out just based on the name/album cover without even hearing the review, and I'm really glad I did. Legitimately one of the catchiest pieces of music I've ever listened to. Almost all of the songs on here are stuck in my head.

This is packed with throbbing synths and other sounds straight out of the 80s. While that plays a big part in the catchiness of the songs, the main draw here is the hooks. The melodies in here are ****ing awesome, and extremely memorable.

Also, his voice goes along very well with it (a lot of his vocal work sounds reminiscent of Elvis Costello to me), and he completely carries most of the hooks with it. I don't think this is any more apparent than on the track "Sweet Bod". Not the necessarily the best beat (although still catchy), but he kills it with the vocals, tying it all together.

Overall, it loses some steam in the last handful of songs, but ends very strongly with "Spiral of Ants", probably my favorite on the album (really nice melancholic end to a very upbeat album). Tracks 2-8/9 of this thing I could listen to over and over and over again straight.

If you're a fan of 80s New Wave or newer electropop like Kavinsky/Com Truise, I think this is an absolute must listen. If not, I still think most people will find it at least catchy. Really campy and nerdy stuff, but it really works, and not in an ironic way either. It's legitimately good music.

This seems like a high rating for an album you evidently dislike.

I actually like a good number of the songs on the album and I think some of them will be permanent staples on my ipod. The lyricism is actually better than it has any right to be on most songs and I can see what they were trying to do with the narrative.

The aforementioned flaws are what knocks it down for me, some of them being nitpicks while others being instrumental in preventing me from fully recommending the album, i.e. bloat.

Is Moby even rated highly in the first place by anyone who isn't a teenager?

Yeah, your original approach of going chronologically across the board but alternating artists each time really left me scratching my head.

Out of all the electronic acts around today, I would expect Moby's audience to be one of older ones considering how long he's been around. I really don't know though.

I switch my approach around from time to time to keep it from getting tedious. I'll probably go back to my first approach again. Or I'll abandon this all together and go back to digging up old Jazz music like what I did with the early Country Blues.

Simon & Garfunkel
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme - 3.5+/5
Bookends - 3.5+/5
Bridge Over Troubled Water - 3.5+/5
Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. - 3.5-/5

Although I didn't give any of their albums a 4, if I was to rate them as musicians by their body of work, I'd give them a 4 or better given the strength of my favorite songs by them.
