Will be able to go to a game in Vegas and when the Chargers play the Raiders in LA every year now. Can't complain.

I still hate the Dolphins (Patriots fan), but I applaud them for voting against that joke of a move.

It's not a joke. People wanted the Raiders to keep playing in a stadium that leaks raw sewage and is now probably an earthquake hazard. That was the only option in Oakland.

Oakland definitely needed a new stadium, that's for sure. However, Las freaking Vegas? Gimme a break. The city built by the mob and sustained by gambling? It was a joke when the NHL decided to go there and it is still a joke now that the NFL is going.

Unfortunately makes business sense for the NFL (not so much for the NHL, but that's another debate).

I am juste very anti-Vegas/gambling when it comes to sports.

One more reason to avoid Las Vegas I guess.

My initial thoughts on this -

1) When is Pac-Mans first game in Vegas?

2) What's the over/under on how many years until they get the draft? I'm sure it will be quick.

3) Is Oakland really going to wear those black unis in that desert heat?

4) Will they allow the casinos and hotels to be sponsors of the team? Dicey.

5) Over/Under on the next Pete Rose scenario being played out - by player or coach

I feel badly for Oakland and at the same time I'm happy for them.

Obviously it's too bad to see your team go. But at the same time, the city is experiencing an economic boom. The job market and home prices have been soaring. And yet even with this influx of money the city wasn't going to give in to the NFL and Mark Davis' ridiculous demands. I think in the long run this is better for the city. Put that extra money into something that will benefit the people, not just Mark Davis.

LA/OC raiders fans are happy

they get to see their team play locally at least once a season when they play the bolts and they only have to drive 4 hours to see them play in vegas compared to the 7 hour drive to oakland

Well that was the same regardless of where the Raiders called home. And the drive from LA to Oakland is only 6 hours so really the only advantage this provides to the Southern California Raider fans is a 2 hour shorter car drive.

To be quite honest, it could happen everywhere. I don't think a team in Vegas increases the likelyhood of something like that happening. It is bad for the optics of it, yeah.

The voice of reason. Oakland will benefit long term.

LV taxpayers will take it in the shorts. I don't care if the tourists pay for it. The school & health care systems are a joke. The Governor should be proud we'll continue to be 50th in the nation in both. :shakehead

Football stadiums are freaking expensive.

Over a billion dollars these days

All for 10 NFL games and maybe 2 more playoff games a year? Is it really worth it for the city to pay for about half of that?

The Warriors are moving just outside SF in a couple more years as well.

New stadium in Vegas will have a retractable dome. Much like how Arizona has one. And they will be getting a Super Bowl down the line.

That's probably the thing that the NFL offered to Oakland. That they would be in the mix each decade to host a SB.

LA, SF, Oak, AZ, Dal, Hou, ATL, NO, Mia, TB. Those cities meet the criteria of either a dome/open air stadium with expected good weather and a party atmosphere. And cities in colder climates like Indy, Detroit, Minny get one after they build a stadium. It's how it works.

You give in once to the NFL owners and they will have their hand out all of the time.

I don't think the gambling is what people should be worried about with players/coaches. It's everything else Vegas has that will be the bigger potential issues (prostitutes, club life, drugs, etc). Yes all of those things can be found in all the other NFL cities too, but in Vegas you don't have to look for those things, they find you especially if you have money.

I'm not buying any gear that says Las Vegas on it. Mark Davis said this move will unite the Raider nation, but I think it's going to divide it.

After thinking about the gambling thing the question popped into my head - what would have to happen for the NFL to vote for a team to be *removed* from a city?

Then I realized that just kind of happened to Oakland. I mean looking back, I seriously don't think at any point the league or Davis ever actually intended to keep the team in the bay.

So it's up to the NHL to successfully market the first major pro team in Las Vegas before the Raiders move there?

What could go wrong
