He's extremely streaky. Even his streaks are streaky. You know he's got some non-scoring streaks and they are not very long and tend to be so far apart you can never know if he's on one or when one's around the corner. Not talking about upper right corner either noo. Or left. Or any shelf where any momma may or may not hide any cookies.

I score this thread 2/5 mudflaps

They should trade him before his value goes down. Kid is going back to Europe in a couple years

Sitting at a desk.
Do people honestly start to dislike player/team because of their fans? Also, generalizing isn't fair. Similar to other fan bases, they have crazies(especially that guy who wished death) but they also have lot of reasonable fans.

Edit. Forgot to add my thoughts. I wouldn't mind if he rested until playoffs. Especially if that leg is still bugging him.

Yes, it does.

Matthews now has a better point per game, assist per game, and point per game than Laine. It's hilarious how anybody could think Laine is better than Matthews given that Laine isn't even better at the only thing he does well: score goals.
Laine isn't even in the same tier as Matthews. Laine is extremely one-dimensional pp sniper at this point. He has a lot of work to do if he wants to be something else/better.

You mean he wasn't going to continue shooting 50% like he had the previous few weeks before hand? Colour me shocked. Goal scorers go through an assortment of streaks in a season. This is just one of them.

We'll assume you meant PPG and GPG as opposed to PPG twice. I don't think any non-Jets/Finn fans or non-Leafs haters would truly hang their hat on Laine being objectively hands down better than Matthews. As a neutral fan myself I see the appeal in the "pure goal scorer" potential that Laine has and some of his snipes are so filthy it's hard not to get excited about him. Then again, you make a fair point in that statistically he isn't a better goal scorer than Matthews overall, and is blown away by Matthews at even strength. When Matthews gets the benefit of the prime PP minutes too it's hard not to see him outdoing Laine in goalscoring as well, along with the thus-far proven superiority in playmaking and overall PPG. Throw in Matthew's defensive superiority and center position...like I said I haven't ran into too many knowledgeable third-party fans of hockey that would take Laine over Matthews unless they are Leafs haters.

A little more on topic, goal scorers like Laine can be streaky but it could work out nicely for the Jets if this cold streak ends right around playoff time and he gets hot again. Then again, if he doesn't, he's kind of a non-factor out there...kind of reminds me of Patches in some ways (in terms of their contributions, Laine definitely has a nicer shot)

Laine also had a cold stretch earlier in the season... then he was red hot and nearly caught up to OV in the Richard race. Now he is cold again. He is a streaky player, as a lot of elite snipers often are; he will work his way out of it.

Ever since the Jets played the Caps he realized that he'll never be good enough to sniff Ovie's jockstrap, let alone hold it and lost all motivation to score. That's my theory :thumbu:

You forgot Matthews has Selke defense.

Are you just going to keep going at this pace on HfBoards for another 10 years? does your CV/resumé have Matthews stats on it too?

At what point will it get tiring to argue over the same thing over and over again? I guess it's just a matter of free time

Laine's a one-dimensional PP specialist who literally does nothing good other than shoot the puck.

We all know this.

I want to dedicate my 4th place finish in my hockey pool to Laine's cold streak. :thumbd:

A large subsection of posters claimed Laine was better. So this is what you get when Laine is clearly inferior in every category compared to Matthews.
