So Ohtamaa's replacement Postma has bested his career high of 12 points... in 20 games.
So, he stopped being an offensive blackhole to become a defensive one. Just got back from the game. The man is a stupid turnover in the own zone machine with an option for stupid penalties. No, at this point he is sadly no Ohtamaa replacement, he is truly a Tokranov replacement: some offence, but a defensive liability and we don't have a proper DD to cover up for his mistakes.

I don't know whether it's systemic or/and can be fixed. If he'd somehow manage to be good in all zones at the same time he'd be a great signing. At the beginning of the season he was sound defensively, probably cautious in a new league and all, but once he started to be part of the offence his D disappeared.

They picked up Michal Bulir. I guess with Shore signed they want to move Ellison to the wing where he belongs and they would rather have solid 3rd line center than another scoring wing in Wolski. Honestly, I somewhat agree with the logic behind it.

Edit: I was just ballparking it but evidently that's pretty much exactly what Velichkin says in the interview.

Considering the players they have signed both before and during the season I don't think Kunlun has money for him. Not to mention he was Keenan's signing and there is little continuity between his time in China and Pilsetnieks'. Jokerit maybe? They haven't really done much to replace Tolvanen who doesn't seem to be coming back.

I just don't understand, that Czech guy they got seems to be pretty mediocre...Are they hoping to later waive him if Kovar is available?
Velichkin said Kovar didn't want to come back because he has options in the NHL (he is currently on PTO with Providence) so they signed Shore. However, they needed 3rd line center more than a scoring winger and Wolski was easy to move because he found a new team in no time (Velichkin said he is sure Wolski has a new team by the time of announcement) and from Magnitka's perspective, they save a lot of money. As sketchy as this seems, money obviously played a role and coaches love their defensively good centers.

Looking at their roster, this makes a lot of sense to Magnitka. With Shore signed the writing was on the wall Ellison is moving back to wing (as he should) and to avoid having to play one of their big earners on the 3rd line they let one go. At the same time, this lets them move Lyubuskin to a wing. I do believe this is addition by subtraction even if money obviously played the role.

Regarding Bulir, he is coming to play the role. It remains to be seen how good at it is he but there were a lot of players brought in for a similar one. Scott, Koskiranta, etc. Let's see how well he does on a scale from Koskiranta to Kuparinen.

Jeglic back with Slovan.

Beneficial to both i would say.

Jeglic will get more minutes on less deep teams and they ll get somewhat solid player, who can produce at around 0.5 ppg mark (hopefully) and is useful in SO.

A decent 3rd liner on an ok team. But since it's likely he will play on Brule's wing he can still score 15- 20 points, maybe. Not like Sibir is drowning in better options.

What’s the skinny on this Jordan Caron that signed with Sibir? Good signing, or is he just taking up space on the bench?
he was awful in Boston, high draft pick, who just didn't have it. Now Poostma was horrible as well, and he is tearing it up in the K. Let's just wait and see.

Well, the key difference here is Postma was still a force in the AHL. Force big enough to actually stay on the NHL roster for what, 3 seasons? Caron moved to Germany when nobody even offered him a decent vet deal in the AHL.

I, for one, am not surprised at all Postma is succeeding (that's well documented) but Caron is just a warm body with some skill. For a team which is lead in scoring by a 20 y.o. kid out the MHL whom nobody even knew before the season that's step up as it is though.

I actually saw Postma play on every occasion for the B's last year, his performance was laughable. I didn't think he would be this good in the KHL. His offensive game would transition no doubt, but to score this many points....At the same time after what Dallman was able to do in Barys and he was a total joke in the NHL.

The player transition is a mystery at the end of the day.. Dietz wasn't a big scorer or an exceptional talent even in the AHL and look at him now. Maione has never even made AHL. Hersley was deemed to not be very good even by SHL standards and was on his way out of the KHL when he played for Loko only to be surprisingly picked up by SKA as, what we assumed at the time, PP specialist. And look at those guys now.

At the other side of the table, you have guys like Desharnais or Franson who, one would think, would do great on the big ice and when they come over they are borderline terrible.

Well, it looks like Hartley really hates Murygin. He is shipped to Amur in exchange for German Voloshin. Bobkov's backup will be Shilin. I'm happy for Murygin since he'll find much more playing time in Khabarovsk but there is still A LOT of hockey to be played before Rämö returns. Time to wrap up Bobkov in cotton wool.

Mamin is returning from Florida to CSKA (for now). It's very sad for me, the guy was always a defensive forward, with decent skating and some offensive ability. When I saw him play for Flo he was not the worst guy on the rink, still barely playing.
He comes to CSKA, who are winners of 22 games in the 23 tries and a humongous rotation as is.
I am not sure if he is put in a better situation.

The player I talked about in the pre-season - Shane Prince - is coming to Sibir to replace Bertrand. I think that's I great signing for once, the guy can really play. Even though he got released by Davos that whole team is having just a brutal season. Brule and Prince's combo brings legitimate 1st line talent to Novosibirsk. If only they managed to do it 3 months ago.

A goal in his debut game. As I said, this guy is gonna be good. Probably in the KHL to stay.
