Which teams are the strongest this coming season? It seems like CSKA lost some power IMHO Ak Bars, Avangard seems to be a bit stronger than a previous season. Will Minsk and Riga be the weakest ones again?
"Problems have arisen with hockey players who do not belong to Russian
clubs. The whole Dynamo riga, the whole Jokerit, the foreigners Barys and Minsk.
These teams are in our league, but they are foreign
clubs. There are already completely different rules for obtaining visas. And visas do not give. The situation has not yet been resolved.
I do not know about any team. I just read that Jokerit (?), Salavat Yulaev, Torpedo, Traktor, Lokomotiv and apparently KRS Beijing (Arena Mytischi) will switch to the Finnish size. I do not know about Dinamo Riga, but if I remember, they have one more year to switch. So, just Dinamo Riga will be using the classic size next season. The remaining 22 sides will use the smaller ice, either the NHL size or the Finnish size. How many teams will switch for NHL surface for this upcoming season ?
Jokerit will play on the Finnish rink size once they’re able to play league games in Helsinki
Fair point, I never thought of that. I guess playing in St. Petersburg would mean playing on an NHL size rink, considering that the the most likely scenario would be sharing SKA's arena, or share arena with SKA-Neva and Dinamo St. Petersburg (someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm guessing SKA's farm team play on the same rink size as the main team does...).Well that's another problem re: potentially playing in Russia. What if they're forced to play in an NHL size rink after training in a hybrid one? They'd lose all home advantage.

The other option, Sochi, plays on an NHL size rink as well, however I don't know if they would use Bolshoy Ice Dome or if they would use the smaller Shayba Arena which might be possible to transform to the Finnish rink size.
Replying to myself, it seems like Shayba arena is being used during the Sochi Hockey Open and the rink seems to be NHL-sized, meaning that Jokerit almost certainly will be forced to play on a smaller rink if they will start the season in Russia. Jokerit themselves will be able to travel between Finland and Russia according to current regulations, as presumably all players and staff members are residents in Finland and as such restrictions do not apply. It is just very unlikely that Russian teams would be granted entry anytime soon (this year) as hockey is not classified as essential work for which travel restrictions are lifted.
