Wasn't ever really expecting us to find a taker. Even with 50% retention he makes too much for what he provides.

Say what you want about the guy but there is no question he is absolutely one of the most respected and looked up to members of this team, and I'd say he probably brings a lot to this group that we don't see.

It really is too bad that his game on the ice isn't more suited to helping insulate these young puck moving defensemen we have coming along. Like you said, all the evidence supports that he's the type of respected and experienced person we want in that room with the young players.

Shatty was brought here as a 3rd pairing OFD who can help on the PP. Through roster changes, Shatty was forced into a top-4 role, play the PP, and play the PK. He was one of our better defensive defensemen last year, but that's not who he is. Just like seeing Fowler on the PK, I can't ding Fowler for being put into a position he's not made for.
