Nice going Kassian, what a great time to get suspended.

No McDavid, no Neal and now no Kassian.

We can officially say the Draisaitl line is the 1st line on the team now. Because no one from the first line is playing now.

 FML

Kassian needs to get his **** back together. We need him at his best.

We could officially say that when McDavid went down. Neal is a PP specialist who's no better at evens than Chiasson, better highs but lower lows. Kassian is only a top 6 guy if he's a 3rd wheel, other than that he's a mediocre 3rd liner who was slumping. All this means is the 3rd line might be slightly worse and Chiasson doesn't need to split PP minutes. No biggie. The Oilers may not have a great bottom 6 but they do have a ton of depth guys who can play there in a pinch. The two call ups of Granlund and Cave aren't that big of a downgrade from those 2 in all honesty.

Seems excessive considering what a joke Parros is and his refusal to actually protect players. But that has no business in hockey so whatever

That’s the frustrating thing in this. He’s not a 4th line goon anymore, and we need all hands on deck with Connor out. Now is not the time to pull a stunt like that.

I'm hoping the suspension wakes him up and he goes back to the guy who was one of the best 5v5 guys this year.
I'm hoping for that too. He'll be plenty rested and so will McDavid unfortunately not from the circumstances I'd like. I hope we're still in the thick of it by that time.

I havent seen one comment the last two weeks that has been positive about Kass's on ice play and now he's a big loss to the team? I prefer Kass in the lineup than out but hes been more of a liability than an asset the past two weeks. Maybe this will even get Benson in the lineup and some actual minutes

Since Dec 20 Kassian has delivered a grand total of 1G 3A to the team while playing much of that on a topline. His offensive play had completely disappeared along time ago. This player has only ever played well for brief stints. March 1 will come around and Kass will have played 17games and missed 9more due to suspensions in that span. Contributing one goal of offense in 2.5mths of a hockey season.

His unpredictability can be to his benefit when he isn't being pure stupid. Helps guys play odd around him cause they don't know what he will do

I could agree with this if I could remember the last time Kass punked the opposition team or players into penalties or losing their mind. He's being on the wrong side of the ledger consistently. He doesn't draw suspensions, penalties, he takes them. He's the opposite of an effective instigator. He's the one that costs teams. At this point he's the baited. The loose cannon sinking its own ship.

This. Good thing we gave him that ridiculous contract. We should let everyone play with McDrai when negotiating a new deal.

That was a pretty weak kick. More of a push off but I can see why he would get a suspension. 7 is excessive as it didn't malicious, more of a reaction to push off and get back in the play.

Sounds about right.
It was a brief moment of frustration which was expressed in the worst way possible.

Not here to crap on kass. Stupid move yes and I'm sure if he could he would take that back. The long and short kass is here long term and can be a very effective player. There is some hate going on by posters I've never seen coming out of the wood works . I hope he gets his **** figured out and gets back to being effective on the ice. Your up Benson time to make your mark dont waist it we really need the help!

I expected worse. It really wasn't much of a kick, and I"m glad they took that into consideration. But... you just f***ing can't do stuff like that.

5 would have sent the same message but with his history and league inconsistencies when handing out punishment could have been 10.

Kassian has always been a little cheeky and I’m sure there really was no harm intended. A lot of ups and downs with him lately.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I think 7 games is over the top. Sure suspend him and send a message but this is twice as long as it should be for what actually happened.

Apparently you can check a guy with the primary point of contact being the head and give said player a concussion and not get so much as a penalty if you do it the right way. Or you can hit a vulnerable player from behind head first into the boards and not get a penalty. Or you can stick your leg out on another player and not get a penalty. But a light kick gets 7 games? That specific kick wouldn't have hurt anybody unless he kicked them in the face. There was virtually no danger of Cernak getting cut as it was indeed more of a push into the chest protector.

DOPS only cares about optics and does not treat players equally. If they gave a shit about protecting players the suspensions would be considerably different. If this is worthy of a 7 game suspension because of the potential danger of cutting a player then where is Giordano's lengthy suspension for sticking his leg out on McDavid because of the potential danger of ending McDavid's season/career with a knee on knee hit. The standard applied by the DOPS is horribly inconsistent and certain considerations are subjectively thrown out the window for one dangerous play and not another.

Anyways it was a dumb reactionary thing for Kassian to do and it is suspension worthy but my goodness the hyperbole regarding this incident is ridiculous.

Agree - I think 4 games would have been adequate to send a message. He got 2 because of who he is and at least one more because well Oilers.
