So you think they should be throwing the book at players no matter the action or severity?

Lifetime bans for anyone who even commits a penalty because they could have seriously injured someone?
You're taking things to extremes here. But to me a reasonable response to a player purposely kicking (Kassian himself said he did kick intentionally) is throw the book at him. Way too dangerous to take chances.

Pounding players while they're lying on the ice and you only stop because the linesmen haul you off, is fine? I thought that's where the "code" drew that line

Yes. I am perfectly fine with what happened to Tkachuk completely. He 100% deserved it. This kicking is unacceptable though and Kassian got the suspension he deserved.

Should be +20 games and hefty fines and he should be given the ultimatum: Go visit someone for anger management or get suspended indefinitely.

This is f***ing stupid and dangerous, like wtf? There's no excuse of doing that.

2 suspensions in the last month after not getting any for years. This is just coming after his big pay day.

Why can't he control himself again? Hope he's not back on the wrong path.

Reasonable length of suspension.

Properly balances the fact that he kicked into padding dealing no damage with how incredibly risky it is to kick a blade into someone's upper body.
Shouldn't matter though.

That's like saying "oh he hit a guy with the handle of a knife, it's okay. He could've used the blade on him."

No matter how you slice it - this is a stupid, illegal move that could be real dangerous. And whether he thinks it or not, there's kids out there that watch his bum ass play, and he needs to set the standard, not lower it.

We all know that kicking is way off base and clearly Kassian deserved something for what he did. Imo though what Chara did earlier this week to Gallagher was far more dangerous. Kassian would have had to kick him quite a bit higher than he did. Chara on the other hand is kinda lucky that Gallagher wasn't severely hurt. There's a range of severe injuries that were an inch from happening

He thought he would only get to pay fines like the star players.. but he forgot the latter part....

No, it’s not. Taking a blunt shot to the exposed front of the neck is way more dangerous then getting kicked through padding in the upper chest even with a sharp object. Both are dumb, but one clearly has more potential for severe injury than the other

Just saw the video for the first time. Jesus that’s bonkers. Kassian is such a loose cannon who clearly doesn’t get it. Don’t see how anyone can defend this nonsense. Need to get this dude out of the league soon before he snaps and goes psycho in a serious way

Way to low punishment! A ban for life in every leuage world wide, a 10m fine and a tagged 5 years community service!

And Oilers gets their cap hit back!

I think they should absolutely suspend and/or penalize based on the action and not the result.

Obviously context matters, but kicking someone is easily one of the dumbest things you can do while playing hockey.

Skinner threw a mini hissy fit in frustration because he was pasted into the boards, and he pushed on Nichol's leg with his skate blade.
Kassian did a normal Kassian thing, which was he felt the code was being violated, so in frustration like an enraged toddler gorilla tried to maim the transgressor.

Do not spin Skinners as something less then what it was, that is a damn dangerous thing to do, much like hitting from behind or using your stick to try to break necks. None of these are hockey plays and everyone of them deserves a way steeper suspension.

Kassian got what he got because he is a repeat offender. I think the NHL needs to make certain things manditory suspensions and get someone who does not care if it is done by a goon, bottom sixer or star, they need to hold themselves at a standard because right now the DOPS is a joke.

So Giordano sticking his leg out should have been suspendable offense because he is a repeat offender for the same thing?

He didn’t get throat punched likes you’re exaggerating

Also if one is soooo much more dangerous it’s weird one only got a fine and another got 7 games, right?

Lol ya, time to start handing out suspensions for possible trips. That was exactly my point.
