WJC: Karlsson a healthy scratch in Ottawa

I have no problem with a regular on an NHL-team, staying with his club during the JWC - but someone like Karlsson who's been flung between the AHL and the big team, along with a few healthy scratches, would certainly develop better if he got to play for his country in the JWC.

He's a very minimal part of Ottawas team, and there are several players that could easily fill his spot for a couple of weeks (given that he's a healthy scratch both games since the JWC started).

Btw, someone said he didn't want to go - where did he say this? And do you think he'd rather spend his time in the press box, than play for Sweden?

You say damn WAY too much. Karlsson has been scratched twice. If any of our Dmen get hurt, we don't have enough. What should matter more to an NHL GM? Please consider this. Damn.

You have alot of guys in the AHL that could fill his spot.

Seriously, who could fill his spot? Our best bet is a 35 year old who has played 4 NHL games since 1999. Stop talking out of your behind.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, Lee is injured right now. So, if we give up Karlsson to Sweden, and one D-Man gets hurt, Smith/Kudelka are our new 3rd pairing D-Man till Karlsson's back. How stupid would that look on Murray?

Erik Karlsson has not been "flung between the AHL and the big team". He got sent down after 9 games, played 12 games in the AHL before he got back to Ottawa. Since then he's been a regular for Ottawa for 23 games and the last two games has been the first time as healthy scratch.

He is not a "very minimal part of Ottawas team". In fact, he's been playing first PP-unit and second d-pairing.

I can't be arsed, simply cause I think you're overreacting, to look for any of the articles in both aftonbladet and expressen where he says that unless he's playing in the AHL at the time, he chooses NHL over WJC.

I'm guessing that practicing with the team is still quite useful. There's a lot of information he needs to take in still in regards to playing the system and executing it to perfection.

One of the areas he's struggling in is handling NHL forwards in even numbers, or in oddman rush situations. Stuff like this is expected from a rookie, but even sticking with the team and working on these drills in practice is going to be valuable for him to learn, especially if he wants to make a big impact next year.

I don't think he'd really benefit from playing in the WJC seeing as he'd be able to skate circles around all but 2 or 3 teams in the tournament.

Karlsson really doesn't have anything to gain by playing in this tournament. He was by far the best defecenceman and some might argue player in teh entire tournament last year as an 18 y/o.

It's better off for his development to stay in Ottawa, practice with an NHL team, and continue to play 15-18 minutes a night in the NHL on the 2nd pairing and 1st pp unit...

It's not that difficult to understand here folks...

Yes he would rather be in Ottawa in the press box, practicing with the team and collecting a fatass paycheck rather than playing in the WJC get paid nothing. This was his own decision, get over it.. It likely would have cost him upwards of $100 000 out of his own pocket to leave the sens for a few weeks, the decision was a no-brainer. You didn't see any other kid within age eligibility opt to leave an nhl roster for the WJC either.

What the Sens should have done is send him back to the SEL, so he could sit in the press box over there, since Frolunda always prefers to play their veteran players over their youngsters.

How often was he a healthy scratch last year in Frolunda? He was even demoted to Boras of the Allsvenskan for a while. The horror.

Karlsson isn't *that* good anyway, he would have contributed abit defensively but I think he's really overrated offensively.

We really miss his breakout pass, that thing is gold. Hopefully he rightfully gets back to playing, because he deserves the icetime a helluva lot more than Campoli or Picard
