Not a bad offer but I feel like we are trying for a package to put together for a proven top 4 guy.
If this were offered, yes.
Not the type of D we need.
Not exactly the type of guy we'd target, more of a top 4 defensive D.

I would love to get Kapanen for Vatanen but I don't think Dubas is dumb enough to do that.
A deal around Kapanen for Severson would be interesting, but I don't think the Devils would make that deal.

If it's to happen before July....
1 - Team must be 'sellers' (out of playoffs)
2 - Player can't be a pure rental
3 - Cap hit can't be too much higher than Kap/AJ (or team must retain)
4 - Has to help the Leafs now
5 - Probably has to be a veteran with lots of experience
A few names that fit the bill:
Duncan Keith - 3+ yrs left at 5.538 (has he fallen off?)
Brendan Smith - 1+ yrs left at 4.350 (hard nosed defensive Dman)
David Savard - 1+ yrs left at 4.250 (exactly what the leafs need IMO)
Alec Martinez - 1+ years left at 4.000 (reunite with Muzzin)

I like this as a base for both teams, but CBJ needs more. Anderson has under-performed but may be a better fit lower in the depth chart on Toronto. Savard is a solid top-4 defensive Dman. I think Kapanen would do really well alongside Dubois in Columbus.

He can't. Every chance he's got on the left side, even when moved up in the lineup, he's disappeared. His game is much more suited to the right side.

For all Hainsey's warts he was able to babysit Rielly to some strong seasons, he needs somebody to calm him down
But not for Johnsson or Kapanen obviously

I would do Adam Larsson for Kapanen and Bracco.

I wouldnt mind Benning but not at the price of Kap/Johnsson. Larsson would be the ask.
