Jokinen seemed to be butting heads with Muller. It's not like he all of a sudden, forgot how to play decent hockey!

When you look at his career PPG, it's pretty clear that his productivity is very closely connected to his team situation:

Season|Team|PPG
05-06|Dallas|0.68
06-07|Dallas|0.59
07-08|Dallas|0.54
07-08|Tampa Bay|0.70
08-09|Tampa Bay|0.35
08-09|Carolina|0.44
09-10|Carolina|0.80
10-11|Carolina|0.74
11-12|Carolina|0.58
12-13|Carolina|0.33
12-13|Pittsburgh|1.67

Those are some stark peaks and valleys considering the very short time period. Speaks to a player who is a cog in the machine, rather than an engine.

Yeah, I was going to say it seems like the longer he stays in a place and the more prominent he becomes in a team the more he struggles to meet expectations. If Pitts keeps him around I think he'll be good there for a while. Crosby/Malkin draw so much of the media attention he'll always be an afterthought there.

IMO, the Pens' best move here would be to shop him this offseason. There's sure to be a sucker GM who'll see him in a new light now that he's in a perfect situation again.

The more I think about this trade, the worse it looks. Carolina really did sell when the price was lowest... Jokinen, even when he's not producing offensively, is a good player. I didn't even think his contract was that bad. This trade was a steal for Pens.

He cleared waivers. His trade value was less than 0. His cap hit absolutely screwed us for next year. What was JR supposed to do, hold out for a better offer?

Meh, when the return is a conditional low rounder, I would've liked for him to play out the rest of the year. If he comes out of it, we still have him on a steal of a contract. If he doesn't, we can try again to move him at the draft or after.

That being said, I wasn't up in arms when the trade went down. Jokinen has clearly stepped it up in coming to Pittsburgh (like he did when he first came here) and wouldn't be playing like this (more than likely) if he was still a Cane. I think we knew this would be a steal for Pittsburgh when it went through but he just wasn't producing for us, so we gave him the opportunity to produce elsewhere, which he's taken.

As previously stated Jussi had cleared waivers, meaning we couldn't give him away.
I think it had gotten past the point of no return and there was no way he was going to be part of this team moving forward (for play and contract reasons). JR did right by Jussi by dealing him and you really couldn't have expected more in return except maybe a little higher conditional pick (4 or 5) which he might have met based on his play.
I am happy for Jussi that he ends up on a team with a legit chance and good for him for making the most of it.

I am doing something I never thought in a million years I would do, I am rooting for the Pens to win the Cup because of Brandon and Jussi, two of my families favorite Canes the past few years.

Same here, mind you there's a couple other teams I wouldn't mind seeing win it if at all possible (Jackets, Sens, Isles, Sharks). But none of them outside of MAYBE the Sharks should be seen as anything but total darkhorses. Pens are in that legit contender category and have some of my favorite ex-Canes. If Orpik and Cooke were no longer on the team I'd be openly bandwagoning at this point, Orpik comes across as a ***** to me and Cooke is one of the dirtiest players of the last 10 years in the league.

Love Brandon and Jussi, hate the Pens, so I will not be rooting for them to win the cup. However, I am very happy that they both have been successful with pittsburgh. I'm hoping for the blue jackets and isles. really, the playoffs this year will be tough to watch.
