What's wrong with him? Most of the time he wins along the wall and starts a cycle. He just isn't fast and doesn't produce much on a 4th line... Most players don't produce on a 4th line. I think there is more continuance in possession when he is involved than with Connor Brown who has had an uncanny knack of killing all offense for his line all season long.

Personally I think he is ready to be given a shot higher up in the line for extended look until Matthews is back to see what we have. Playing him on the 4th line (like Kappy) we wouldn't know...... Lets learn the lesson and kill the EGO. Get with the modern times

Leivo Love™ is a prime example of the local Toronto Marlies/player Fan Club home bias. Leivo sucks. At least he could use that size of his to go out and be a fourth line energy guy by skating his ass off and Hitting people.

He doesn't. He fancies himself a skill guy. And he's not.

He's totally replaceable.

I just checked. His SAT% is actually good and I'm not a big "eye-test" person anyway. I guess I overreacted, but seriously, he seems to miss the net often for whatever reason. He doesn't have great stickhandling, passing etc, but I never had a problem with his shooting in the past.

I don't care if we trade him. I want to see what he can do for 5-10 games with a real chance. I mean, I have to watch Brown blowing a wheel or just dishing the puck off to anyone that's not a Leaf game after game. It can't be any worse than that considering the 4th line has been pretty solid for us so far and he's been a part of that.

He seems to miss the net a LOT. Maybe I'm seeing things.

I'll agree his shot hasn't been as accurate as I'd hope this year. But I've liked everything else I've seen from him. If he keeps this up the points will come. As many as you could reasonably expect on the 2nd PP and a line with Ennis and Goat anyway. The advanced stats back that up as well. 5 on 5 he's at 56.82% CF%, 60.96% xGF%. Those numbers are ridiculously good for any player. Unless his best skill dried up during the offseason(it didn't) the goal scoring should come around.

Leivo sucking does not mean Brown doesn't suck too.

Brown used to be an energy guy. What happened to him?

I'm not going to defend him too vigorously because like you said, he's replaceable, but I always had trouble with the notion that if you're a bigger body you need to be a banger.

Brown used to be an energy guy. What happened to him?

Brown's still a fairly serviceable energy guy, but whereas he used to be savvy with the puck but couldn't skate, now he seems to be able to motor but can't handle the puck at his new top speed. Makes him fairly ineffective holding the puck or doing anything productive with the puck when he wins a battle.

I don't know but they all frustrate me to no end. Leivo I see some glimpses of what could be something but it's hard to be anything from the 4th line. It won't hurt any, Marleau is crapping the bed as well!

I don't necessarily believe big = banger either but if you offer nothing else you gotta use what you've got...

Goat should take that advice as well.

Sure seems that way. It's like the Peter Principle.

66.67% CF tonight...

If you are not scoring. Then you best be bringing something else to the table. He should be hitting everything that moves and maybe he gets a chance higher up in the line up. He plays on the PP and had games with Kadri. He needs to be bringing it every game. He should have took a healthy run at someone during the Jets games.

I have never been sold on him as anything more then depth and thus far he has not disappointed me.

Leivo needs players who can do something with the puck once he gets it to them or they to him.

Kapanen clearly could do more playing with good players, leivo is of the.same ilk.

You can usually tell if player is driving or is better then showing. Leivo passes the eye test and advance stats as well.

Interesting, I think he's good almost every of the few shifts the 4th line gets. This line plays good and he's the best of the three, good on the board, retrieving pucks, cycle, takeaways. Just doesn't finish like he used to, but I think this will come.
As shown above his underlying stats support this view. If you pay attention to him and don't only recognize him when he has a chance to score, then you know why.
He is also getting good after game report cards on the Athletic almost every game.

I'd love to see him on a better line. Maybe with Tavares and Kapanen.

The thing is this guy used to snipe even on the 4th line, and for some reason he can't anymore.

Well I think he will get better with more games. He didn’t really get a chance to play in the last 2 years, but he used to finish better then. The more you play the more practice you get, like Hyman. He does need to work on his skating, other than that he’s good. At least he gets to the net instead of killing plays.
