If Tampa can’t afford Paul (which they can’t) could Ottawa resign Paul this summer? Intriguing

Not the worst trade and not the best trade. We’ll see how it works out in time. I think Joseph can perhaps produce more here with a bigger opportunity than in Tampa.

I’d bet that Joseph is a better NHLer in Ottawa than Paul was in his time here

We did great here for a change, needed actual players that fit in with the core in return for someone we shipped out.
I agree. I like this trade. I have always like Joseph as a player . I think he will fit right in here and he'll get better minutes as well as being another threat on the PK. People will like him when they see him play.

Also - this is the first time the Sens have ever retained to juice the value on a rental. That's a pretty big change in philosophy.

Even still - I don't hate it. Joseph has more to give and he'll get a lot more opportunity here.

They couldn’t go to arb with him because his contract would put them over the Cap, one of the rare situations where qualifying a RFA is the same as sending him to waivers.
