Someone can give up a relatively okay roster player for the rest of the year (or with term) for Goose.

Chayka moves a lot of pieces but one thing that hasn't gone unnoticed is he doesn't seem to move his own decisions. Maybe the only major decision he's reversed himself on was moving Murphy after giving him a 6 year deal.

Goligoski still has full veto power right now too.

It will take so many stars for that deal to align I just don't see it happening until he's on a no trade list at the earliest. July 1st.

One thing about the money, 500k of Weal's deal is bonus which I'm guessing is already paid out as it was a signing bonus.
So his $ cost is only to us as prorated 1.25m which would be about 600k.

We will pay Weal $584,577.42 total for the rest of the season, to be exact.

Calculation:

Cap hit: $1,750,000
Signing bonus: $500,000 (already paid)
Salary: $1,250,000
Duration of NHL season in days: 186 (10/4/2018-4/7/2019 inclusive)
Weal's daily NHL salary: $6,720.43
Days remaining in NHL season including today: 87

($1,250,000 / 186) x 87 = $584,577.42

He gave up McGinn.

He can fix Goose

I remember watching Weal in LAs rookie camp several years back and thinking he was easily outworking everyone else on the ice. Havent followed him since but I hope he at least hasn't lost that motor from back then.

You can never have too many sub-6' bottom sixers.

I actually liked Weal earlier. We gave up very little. He'd be good depth for Tucson if we were healthy.
