Joel Armia is Looking Good

Good game last night but I still think he lacks the offensive instincts to be a top scorer. His goals are almost always individual efforts where he uses his reach and insanely good hands to beat someone one on one (one on two, etc). He seems to lack the ability to find the quiet spots where he can pick up easy points, and only makes highlight reel plays. Since hardly anyone can make those highlight reel plays game after game it gives the appearance of inconsistency, but I think it’s just that his hockey sense doesn’t match his skill in the offensive end of the ice.
He's improving his positioning with more experience. He scored a nice goal last night by settling into a nice quiet spot and ripping a wrister. He almost had another goal by finding the sweet spot in the slot on a nifty play, but was robbed by Talbot.

He's now second on the Jets in 5v5 points/60 this season, and is >1 goal per sixty minutes at 5v5. He's really having a strong season.

Once every dozen games or so Armia is the most dominant player on the ice from either team. The other 11 he's an average 3rd liner. Meh.

His value is in how strong defensively he is.
He gets a lot of take aways, those are worth so much.
With a player like Perreault he can look fairly dominant.
Since Perreault was moved to the line with Hendricks and Armia they have dominated their matchups in almost every game with very little ice time.
MP and Armia are carrying around Hendricks making him look serviceable.

Scheifele's absence will likely create more opportunities for Joel in the coming weeks.
Armia is a player who tips the ice in your favor and that is so valuable.

I'd like to see him play more TOP6 minutes. So far he's only got 3-4 line minutes really.

He doesnt really have off games. He always does something useful. Kinda hoping he gets to play somewhere else, where he gets to play the minutes he deserves.
i liked this post until i read the plays some where else part had to unlike :D hes one of my fav jets to watch and id like to lock him up for another 4 at least

Every year he has a couple of games where he looks like a superstar (usually against Dallas)

I know. I like the Jets and he probably likes it too, I'd just like to see him get to play more and with more skilled linemates like he deserves. After all, championships are won with guys like him (depth) who are valuable even if they dont always score. Not sure if his future will end in Winnipeg but I hope he gets to use all of his tools.

He's come a long way as a player from offensive skilled guy with a great shot to an all round two way player. He never was cocky though as someone suggested.

"2015-Feb-11 Traded from Buffalo Sabres with Tyler Myers, Drew Stafford, Brendan Lemieux and round 1 pick in the 2015 draft (Jack Roslovic) to Winnipeg Jets for Zach Bogosian, Jason Kasdorf and Evander Kane," All, but Stafford are solid assets for the Jets. Buffalo liabilities. Is it any wonder why Murray got fired?

Armia is an amazing forechecker in the corners, while looking down at the puck.

His struggles are when he has to lift his head to make a play. Kinda like Kane in that way.

I'm not sure how anyone can describe him as cocky either. He is probably the shyest player on the Jets. Flashy yes, but not cocky.

Armia's become an integral role player for the Jets since being traded from the Sabres. At the time of the trade, he was an aging prospect and he may well have fizzled out on the North American game.

He's created a role for himself as a defensive specialist, PK, and tenacious forechecker. Really good along the boards and strong on the puck. Of his 10 goals last year, 4 of them were short handed.

Could he play on a scoring line? Probably. He has a great set of hands. I think he still has the potential to play a more offensive role. But he's quite good in a bottom 6 shut down and checking position.

I would have been really disappointed if he'd been exposed in the expansion draft.

As others have said, he is the best player on the ice about once every 15 games or so. This short handed goal isn't totally out of character for him.

2 sick goals last night, 5 shots, 2 takeways, almost had 2 hat tricks. In 10 minutes. (VIDEO BELOW). It's a shame the Jets have so many RW's and forwards are stacked and they go top-6/bottom-6.

He's coming along nicely. A sniper with size who's excellent defensively with few weaknesses. Plays on the PP and PK (where he's a serious threat to score). He could play in my top 6 any day. Really like his overall game and it's so complementary too so he could easily play with top-line talent like Matthews, Toews, Crosby (look at their wingers).

You've got to think he's (been) on the radar of more than a few GM's around the league. He's RFA after this season and WIN would be wise to lock him up, but I bet they get some interesting inquiries for him too.

I have never heard of this name. Who exactly?

He did ride with his stick in front of Sweden's bench. that was quite cocky move.
I don't think that makes him coxky though, and that celly was kinda a backslash to the Swede Max Friberg doing the same in a game before.

It looks stupid now but doesn't really make him cocky.

Easily a top six player on any team if he could be a little more consistent. When he is on he is fun to watch and when he is off he is not a total nightmare. Seems to be finding his stride in Winnipeg.

Pretty sick at handling the puck as well as one of the best stick checkers in the league today. I can see him being an important piece for the Jets going forward. A very versatile player.

Kudos to him for reinventing himself as a defensive specialist to hang onto a NHL roster spot. He was drafted as a one-dimensional sniper who was pretty cocky and showed no signs of being interested in being a role player. He's come pretty far and now he's still occasionally showing flashes of those sweet offensive skills, but for some reason he can't put it together very consistently. As someone said above, he always leaves you wanting for more.

injuries. he was equally good before injured in 2016-2017 season
